Kevin McCarthy was done being nice. The House Republican leader cast off his typically sunny demeanor during a December 8 meeting of the GOP conference to deliver a stern warning to his most raucous members: Quit trying to hold your vote for speaker over my head.
"He said, 'If any of you come to me and tell me that you're not going to vote for me unless I do something, I'm going to do exactly the opposite, even if I agree with you,'" said Rep. Tom Cole of Oklahoma, who was there at the time. A second Republican member told CNN McCarthy punctuated his threat with, "I mean it."
Further driving home his point was an edgy warning that the House GOP steering committee -- which determines committee assignments -- will take into consideration those fomenting internal dissent and attacking their fellow Republicans.

Kevin is an invertebrate, just what we need......vomit.
I’m not plugged into this issue very much. I get the impression that many here prefer someone else as Speaker. Who are some other candidates, assuming the GOP takes back the House?
“ He said, ‘If any of you come to me and tell me that you’re not going to vote for me unless I do something, I’m going to do exactly the opposite, even if I agree with you,’”
Irrational statement. He is too emotional for that job.
Lord Help Us! Ugh!
Ryan, Cantor, McCarthy. We’ve gotten rid of two out of the three. Let’s make it a Trifecta, shall we? :)
He was on Tucker or Hannity last night and was shilling for war with Russia also.
I still want Trump!
Besides McCarthy, the GOP leadership team is Steve Scalise, then Elise Stefanik, then Gary Palmer.
It would take a bunch of newly elected actual conservatives to venture outside of current leadership team.
“He was on Tucker or Hannity last night and was shilling for war with Russia also.”
Somebody needs to ask these “rah rah war guys” a simple question.
Does the United States get more foreign refugees from war or not going to war?
Because if you don’t want foreigners all over your country, maybe you should “tone down” your foreign policy extremism.
RINO !
As is true of any foreign military actions, we should ask, what is the vital interest of the United States in such actions? What are the consequences if we get involved? What’s the cost/benefit?
I don’t want to see Ukraine invaded by Russia. I don’t want to see Taiwan overrun by China. But what is the vital interest of the United States, if these events happen?
No McCarthy.
Patiently waiting for that protest GOP candidate to take on McArthy a la Cantor.
“I don’t want to see Ukraine invaded by Russia. I don’t want to see Taiwan overrun by China. But what is the vital interest of the United States, if these events happen?”
Neither do I.
IMO China & Russia will fight harder over Taiwan and Ukraine than we or our allies will. Hard enough that it could set off the next great power war, like WW2.
We actually don’t have a national interest with either country, they aren’t in our main sphere of influence. If they were we’d already have an alliance and treaties signed from a 100 years ago.
We already sold out Taiwan in the 1970’s by agreeing to a one China Policy. With the caveat that it wouldn’t be acquired by force, so that situation is somewhat ambiguous.
The State Department likes Ukraine because they’re running a money laundering-kick backed scheme that benefits politicians of both parties & the defense sector.
Ukraine has ties to Europe but isn’t a NATO military member, so I can’t really see a conflict arising over that corrupt country.
Another weak-@ss RINO speaker.
If you want new leadership, you’ll have to elect new membership.
Why is it we can’t get a true conservative speaker...damn it!
Milquetoast McCarthy. No, thank you.
It seems like you could use reverse psychology on him.
