The Biden White House has withdrawn U.S. support from a pipeline project designed to deliver Israeli natural gas to Europe, reversing a decision taken by President Donald Trump’s administration.
The 1,180-mile undersea pipeline project from Israel to southern Europe, set to be completed by 2025, will ease Europe’s dependence on Russia and Turkey. These two countries have a stranglehold on the continent’s energy supply.
“The United States is no longer supporting the construction of EastMed gas pipeline project as Washington’s interest is now switching to renewable energy sources, according to a State Department statement,” the Euractiv, a Brussels based news website, reported recently.
By rescinding the U.S. backing for the Israel-Europe pipeline, the Biden administration is bowing down to the pressure from Turkey’s Erdogan regime, which has been angered for being left out of the lucrative energy project. “Several Greek media reported that Joe Biden’s move politically winks at Turkey, who since the beginning has opposed the EastMed deal as it was bypassing it,” the European news outlet noted.
On Wednesday, Israeli TV channel i24News reported the Biden White House decision:
Washington no longer supports the proposed EastMed gas pipeline from Israel to Europe, according to a Jerusalem diplomatic source.
The Biden administration reportedly informed Israeli, Greek, and Cypriot officials in recent weeks of its change in attitude.

“The United States is no longer supporting the construction of EastMed gas pipeline project as Washington’s interest is now switching to renewable energy...”
This is going to over like a fart in Church.
Is it really any of our business?
Someone once said “Never attribute to malice anything that can be adequately described by stupidity”... But this is a tough call either way.
We can only have pipelines wher: we can gin up the war machine like Syria and Ukraine; where hunters paintings are sold. Hitler was a painter too.
He’s one sick b******.
Biden supported the Russian pipeline but opposes the Israeli one for “environmental” reasons. Right.
So if the Brandon Administration no longer supports the pipeline, and the United States no longer supports the Brandon Administration, doesn’t that mean that the United States supports the pipeline?
Build windmills, suckers!
Wow. Screwing two allies over at the same time.
Dementia Joe kowtows to yet another totalitarian regime.
Were we going to help pay for the pipeline? If not then what difference does it make to Israel and Western Europe?
And our reason is to promote renewable energy? That’s crazy stuff.
Good news for Putin and Erdogan. Not so good from Europe who becomes more dependent on Russian gas. Israel will find someone to sell their gas to. Greece, Cyprus, wonder if Joe or Kamala can find them on a map. And who knows, maybe Joe figures this will keep Putin out of the Ukraine. Good luck with that. Gives him a way of punishing Putin without much damage, reapprove the pipeline.
I wonder why the US is involved with an Israeli/Greek/Cypriot pipeline to Europe? Are we funding it? That makes little sense. Are we going to ban US firms from working on it? What's our role? The only US interest I see is reducing European reliance on Russia.
Liberal Jews will still vote for Dementia Joe
after all he is for abortion which 80 percent
of Jews (liberals) want.
But maybe some conservative Jews will fund the project
Of course it is - for freedom, and equity, and stuff
Israel’s Economy Booms Amid EastMed Pipeline Deal

The new pipeline is expected to be able to carry between 9 and 12 billion cubic meters of gas a year, satisfying about 10 percent of the “energy hungry” European Union’s gas needs.
After the deal was signed, Netanyahu was quoted by Israel’s Kan public broadcaster, saying, “This a big day for Israel, which is becoming an energy power. We signed supply agreements with many neighbors; this strengthens the [Israeli] economy.”
This incredible signing comes just two weeks after Israel signed a deal to begin exporting natural gas from its lucrative Leviathan fields to Egypt. Steinitz called the deal a “historical landmark” for Israel. According to Ynet News, Steinitz said, “The natural gas revolution turns us into an energy power,” and this deal will provide “huge income for the country.”

The U.S is proposing power cable interconnection
According to a Kathimerini newspaper report, citing diplomatic sources, the U.S. is proposing interconnected power cables to connect power generation infrastructure in regional markets.
The U.S. State Department source cited says that the EastMed pipeline project should be abandoned altogether.
Charles Ellinas, the CEO at EC Cyprus Natural Hydrocarbons Company Ltd, who is also a nonresident senior fellow with the Atlantic Council’s Global Energy Center, has adopted that same line of thinking.
The Cypriot expert and Global Energy Council fellow spoke to the Ethnos newspaper about the pipeline, saying that it is a project that would have worked 10 years ago, but not now.
Why is it any of our business what trade and infrastructure other countries do with each other? Seriously.
