That was the whole point of the article, to allay politicians fears that the climate change agenda would be compromised.

Pittsburgh’s Carnegie Science Museum currently has an exhibit called Pompeii. Wife and I saw it last weekend.

Strongly recommend if you are near Pgh.

With just two properties surviving on the one Island it’s just stupid to rebuild considering there are 20 to 30 underground volcanoes in that area.

"Saw at Twitter thread with a 10 MT estimate."
Volcanic eruptions are measured not by megatons, but how it compares on the VEI scale ; Volcanic Eruption Index: a logarithmic scale - each 10 times larger then the preceding number.

In this case comparable to Mt St Helens at a VEI of 4 to 5.

Mount Pinatubo had a VEI of 6. Tambora had a VEI of 7

The only number I could find for material ejected was 400,000 tonnes of sulfur dioxide. A minuscule (0.0002717429 cubic miles) amount compared to the other eruptions above.

Krakatoa ejected 20 million tons of sulfur dioxide, with the ash cloud reaching 50 miles

A graphic for comparison :

Yes, that's right. "Climate change" is too important and valuable to be derailed by a silly little volcano. So whatever happens with the weather it will be blamed on American SUVs.

75-76 was a teenager in Dallas, TX. We had ice on the roads and were running around doing the slide everywhere. It was pretty hard on those of us who had thin winter jackets, which was just about everybody.

Run around outside and horse around, run back into the house to get warm.

I understand the conventional measurement criteria for volcanic eruptions. There is a video circulating of an object that dropped in the water just seconds before the eruption. There is speculation that it was a nuke weapon dropped on top of the volcano. The 10MT estimate is for the weapon, not the follow on volcanic eruption. The Russians have a nuke torpedo rated at 250MT that stands as a threat to generate tsunamis on east and west coasts of North America.

I haven't tracked down the waveform signatures. One of my co-workers specializes in identifying the difference between normal seismic waveforms and nukes. That information would sort whether the speculation was valid.

Nuclear weapon? Right! Most likely a seismic package.

If it was a nuke, then there would be noticeable radioactivity reported everywhere.

Tinfoil is on sale nationwide.

Agree. There would be a plume. No reports.

Might be a little late for this thread but been busy.

Go on Youtube, or whatever and do a search on Silver Creek Caldera. Or Peach Springs Tuff.

Simply amazing. They figure it was a one day event.
