A Republican candidate for Arizona governor dropped out of the race hours before former President Donald Trump was set to speak at a rally with her top rival.

Kimberly Yee released a statement Saturday saying she will instead run for reelection as state treasurer.

"I am withdrawing from the Governor's race to stand for re-election as Treasurer. There is additional work to be done as the Treasurer of Arizona. As I transition my campaign, I want to thank my supporters and invite them to join me in my re-election efforts for Arizona Treasurer," she said in a tweet. Yee did not endorse any other candidate for governor in her statement.

Yee, who is a former top member of the Arizona State Legislature, was competitive but lagging in the polls behind former television anchor Kari Lake, whom Trump has endorsed for governor.

“It is hard for me to believe that a rational, genuine, thinking, and principled conservative could ever support John Kerry or Obama.”

I agree. She MUST be asked that question, definitively and often. And I want to hear a Road-To-Damascus story.

Has she mentioned how she voted in 2016?

She’s in need of about 6 months of a strict but easy to adhere to, Keto diet. She’d be smokin’ afterwards, for someone her age. Keto works. She already tried that and it worked.

Winning “state wide” doesn’t really mean much when it’s as treasurer. Most people just vote party line ticket at that point of the ballot.

I hope Lake can win. Am certainly voting for her. Our elections in Arizona are corrupt as hell.

I voted against Lurch in 2004 and Obama in 2008/2012, but now I have very little praise for GWB, McCain or Romney. Lurch probably would have nominated somebody much worse than Roberts to SCOTUS. I can’t remember any sane nominees from any dem POTUS in the last 50 years.

I can not make up my mind about Lake. Some thing has a false ring about her. She may turn out to be ok. 50/50

"President Trump’s endorsement is earned here, but he has made some bad endorsements or endorsed those who end up stabbing him in the back."

You can only endorse, or fail to endorse, who. actually. runs. Everything else is a failure of every conservative Freeper who failed to put their ass in the wringer.

As for Trump's win percentage: Trump's endorsement record at Ballotpedia has Trump's 2020 endorsements at 141-42 (77%) and Battleground at 21-2 (91%).

There are politicians who would literally do anything for those numbers.

Trump may exceed both numbers in 2022.

I thought Yee was a good candidate. I could have voted for her.

I don’t know anything about Kari Lake other than she was a newsbabe. If Trump endorsed her it means he has factored looks and winnability into the equation. Winnability is important and like it or not, looks matters. That, and someone who would be loyal to Trump.

I disagree. If they were voting party line, there’d be no Demonrat holding statewide office in AZ. This was the same election that voted in Katie Hobbs and Sinema. Yee also won by a much wider vote as well, which should be taken into consideration for viability.

No good SCOTUS nominee since Byron White in 1962, but he was expected to be a good “liberal” jurist. I’m sure it surprised everyone that he turned out to be center-right. Had JFK known that, it’s unlikely he’d have been put on the bench.

I similarly voted against Lurch and Zero, and also share your (now) disdain for Shrub, who turned out to be a total phony. McQueeg only got my vote solely because of Palin, as I expected the stress of the job to kill him quickly in office (of course, as it turned out, he was the explicitly chosen designated loser/ringer for Zero).

Everyone who has been on FR since 2006 knows my absolute disdain for Willard the Rat, and my ringing the alarm bell about him since. That was the first time (2012) I voted third-party for President (for Virgil Goode over the two evils). Willard’s sole job for 4 Presidential elections in a row was to ensure the Demonrats won the office (2008, 2012 as that year’s designated ringer, 2016 with his recruitment of Egg McMuffin to take votes from Trump, and being a part of the bipartisan treasonous Derp State theft in 2020).

I doubt Miss Lake’s choices for President and her agenda in some of those years dovetailed with either yours or mine. She needs to be more open about it.

Without Yee in the race, the ‘choice’ of Lake has landed on Conservatives. Matt Salmon is a no-go, because he ran a terrible campaign against the execrable Butch Napolitano in 2002, a banner GOP year for an office he shouldn’t have lost. Why he’s coming back 20 years later to run again is baffling.

But, as you said, Lake might be OK (and then again, she might not). Those prior red flags just are troublesome.

It’s not the issue of Pres. Trump’s winning percentage of endorsements, it’s the issue of how many of these people are actually committed to reform and taking down the Derp State instead of becoming a part of that corrupt and evil establishment. It would be curious to go through all his endorsements and see how many were con artists or frauds who went native and stabbed him (and us) in the back.
