“He ‘had’ Covid and now is NOT infectious.”

There is no way to confirm that as his last test said he was. And if he had taken a test since then and it was negative, you’d be right. But the rules don’t take that into consideration.

“For travel into and out of Australia, travellers must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination.”

https://www.health.gov.au/health-alerts/covid-19/international-travel

And he has a history with this virus and of breaking protocols:

Novak Djokovic admits breaking isolation while Covid positive

But in court documents released on Saturday, Djokovic’s lawyers argue the player had been granted a temporary visa by TENNIS AUSTRALIA because of his recent infection.

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-australia-59920379

And they have been slapped on the wrist for telling players they can come in to play in their tournament without following the rules.

A letter sent by Tennis Australia (TA) on December 7 to the Association of Tennis Professionals made clear that unvaccinated players simply needed to prove they had contracted the virus in the past six months to enter the country, the Herald Sun reports.

However, a letter sent by Australia’s health minister Greg Hunt to Tennis Australia CEO Craig Tiley warned that unvaccinated players could not use previous infection as an exemption. The Australian Border Force has advised that people must be fully vaccinated, as defined by ATAGI (the national advisory body on vaccines) to gain quarantine-free entry into Australia.

If he’s got a complaint, he should aim it at Tennis Australia, not at the government. The rules were in place, and he didn’t follow them. Otherwise, he should have just gone home without trying to strong arm their government in the press. That’s cowardly trying to cover up stupidity.

He was given an exemption along with about 10 other players. An Australian judge upheld this in favor of Djockovic. A government official “over-ruled” the judge saying Djockvics lack of vaccination would upset the vaccinated Australians. Total PR move.

They did:

Oh you mean the first attempt, where Djokovic landed in front of Judge Kelly?

He won that case - meaning HE COULDN'T HAVE LIED or that would be reason to remove him right there ... which didn't happen

Plus, in the final reason given by the Govt. for Djokovic's expulsion, there is no NO mention of lying, just a potential for inciting anti-vax protests (a political reason)

Djokovic didn't lie - YOU'RE the ones telling lies here, whitney

I'm honestly not getting where you're coming from.

You've been one of the people here with the best understanding I've seen of how and why Australia controls entry to this country.

And now you seem to have decided this case is somehow different.

And if you think Australia needs Novak Djokovic at all... I really don't see how. I personally do wish he'd been allowed to play, but he's a blip.

The Australian Open puts about $300 million a year into Australia's economy - about 0.02% of our GDP.

There IS a way to tell if he had a Covid infection. But you know that, right?

I’ll tell you to do what I tell the residents and Med students. Sit down and think about it. The answer will come to you, then we can discuss it like professionals.

. How is he a threat to the health of anyone at this time? Please explain it to me in simple terms so I can learn, because I am baffled as to how an unvaccinated person can pose a threat to the fully vaccinated and boosted public.

You don’t even have to explain if it is the B cells or T cells or how antibodies function. I just want the “facts” that you know, so I can learn about the unique properties of this novel virus.

I missed the breach of protocol. 5 days, 10 days or until he tests negative?

This is such a misguided use of medicine in politics and will end very badly.

when samples from different batches of vaccine are analyzed and someone at an insurance company does a retrospective study on the efficacy, failure rate, morbidity/mortality risk assessment of the vaccine then we will see how everyone was “just following orders” or “harmed people with good intentions”.

You can always count on information to leak out. There is some great data coming from Israel, the UK and India.

I really hope that every Democrat and their kids get fully vaccinated and boosted, but I suspect that saline, placebo or a benignly modified or dose modified injection were done. Every single CEO, CFO, board of directors, legislators and bureaucrats should be lined up and random samples of vaccine should’ve given to them straight off the loading dock from randomly selected vaccine batches.

It won’t happen, but it would’ve been nice to see.

“Total PR move.”

Of course it was. He may or may not be currently infected as the last test said he was. But the rules are in place by the heads of the country and he didn’t follow them. If he had, they would have known if he was infected and he could have gone through the airport with no problem. He chose not to get vaccinated, tried to get around it, in my opinion, by skirting the rules. The tennis association doesn’t run the country. The politicians do and they have the last call. He never contacted them that I can find. Not real bright or just plain dishonest.

People may be in disagreement with the shots, and especially with being forced to get them. But as long as the countries set their standards with the vaccines, you either play by their rules or you don’t go. He did neither. That was his decision.

“where Djokovic landed in front of Judge Kelly?”

You miss the point. The first attempt happened when he tried to go through the airport illegally by entering the country with a unacceptable visa that got him stopped and quarantined at the airport.

“HE COULDN’T HAVE LIED.”

“Novak Djokovic may have bigger problems than playing in the Australian Open.

The world’s No. 1 tennis player is being investigated by Australian border officials for potentially falsely filling out an immigration form. Djokovic stated in the form that he had not traveled in the 14 days before arriving in Australia, but photos and videos appear to have emerged showing him in Spain and Serbia.

According to the Sun, giving “false or misleading information” is a “serious offense” and, if he is convicted, could come with a jail sentence of up to 12 months.”

https://nypost.com/2022/01/11/novak-djokovic-being-investigated-for-lying-on-immigration-form/

You’ll notice the words false or misleading in the article. If you pull out your thesaurus you find false has under it:
bogus, deceitful, dishonest, distorted, erroneous, fake, fanciful, faulty, fictitious, fraudulent, improper, inaccurate, incorrect, invalid, misleading, mistaken, phony, specious, spurious, unfounded, unreal, untrue, and untruthful.

Misleading has a number of the same words.

And if he didn’t fill out the form properly without hiding the truth about his appearances, he wouldn’t have mislead Kelley either. But when the truth came out, you know, the parts he left out that were pertinent to the case that he tried to apologize for, he was back on the plane.

As for my lies, I backed everything I said with articles except my personal opinion which I identified. But to make it clear where I stand, look at the facts.

The country requires the entering person to be vaccinated.
He would not take the shots and has publicly gone out against them. He passed bad information he got caught at while trying to bypass the rules in place in Australia. It is obvious to me he was refusing to get the shots...he tried to bluff his way into the country by not telling the truth, getting caught on it...and misusing the tennis association that does not have the final say. The government does. He is still being investigated by their border patrol and he could end up in jail for doing exactly what he tried to do.

So you may want to use the word lie with a little more discretion. You obviously don’t see the difference between facts and possible criminal efforts. And in the future, you might want to back your entries with sites that can be identified like I did. Otherwise, you’re just a troll. Don’t bother me again. You waste my time.

“How is he a threat to the health of anyone at this time? Please explain it to me in simple terms so I can learn, because I am baffled as to how an unvaccinated person can pose a threat to the fully vaccinated and boosted public.”

I’m not the one making that decision, the Australian government is. It’s their country. You’re trying to put logic into a foreign government’s decision. And our government does the same thing.

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/international-travel-during-covid19.html#:~:text=The%20White%20House%20announced%20that,WHO%20Emergency%20Use%20Listing%20vaccines.

It has nothing to do with the virus. It is about his not wanting the shot, trying to get by, and being turned away because he didn’t follow the rules. I personally don’t care what he has. If the government of their country says they have to wear a hat to get into the country, and he didn’t, it would be the same thing. They made the rules, they gave him an opportunity to fight it, which they didn’t have to, and they ultimately threw him out cancelling his visa he got from the tennis association. Not because he had or didn’t have c-19 or any of its variants.

Someone early in this thread was up in arms about someone else’s country and their determination because he was a tennis player he should receive special privileges. My retort was that his being a tennis player is not a real big thing and it wasn’t going to stop world hunger or the common cold.

I’m not a doctor and I don’t try to preach medicine to them. So I’m, not a professional in that field of expertise. But I did work for the federal government for half my life and I have an understanding of other countries making rules and their right to stand by them. Especially when they are lied to. How do you forget going to two countries to do exhibitions in about two weeks?

I hope that takes care of the simple request as by not going into the virus, it should be easier to understand my stance. It is political, not medical.

Djokovic followed the rules and even the Govt has accepted it in court filings. He was deported under an all together different clause which had nothing to with rules or visa.

well then that explains a lot.

A bureaucrat isn't required to think, just do your job and collect your money.

If they told you to kill the Joker for coming in and he broke the no vax rule, he is illegal, a danger to our society and then... off he goes, right?

It's all going to work itself out and you might want to think about "rules are rules" and "I was just following orders" excuse.

I just like the fact that the veil has been lifted and the face of the totalitarian, the face of the support for the totalitarian and all those that believe in the collective over the individual are out in the open to see.

If you somehow think that being the good little bureaucrat will protect you and your family, it won't. All these totalitarian regimes and dictators follow a similar path.

You will eventually be asked to chose between your family and the state..... if I were you, i'd chose the state.

I would do the same thing. I'd be the bestest little nazi anyone has ever seen.

“Stop making false statements.”

I quote a site with everything I discover and put it on the thread for everyone to research. That makes it information, not by me but by someone that may know more than we all do. If you don’t agree with it, then call the people that made it.

January 13, 2022 - The Supreme Court ruled Thursday that the federal government can enforce a final rule mandating healthcare workers to be vaccinated against COVID-19 while cases challenging the mandate are being appealed.

In a 5 to 4 decision, the Supreme Court agreed that the final rule mandating the vaccine for healthcare workers in facilities participating in Medicare and/or Medicaid “fits neatly within” the authority Congress has granted to HHS to impose conditions on federal funds.

“After all, ensuring that providers take steps to avoid transmitting a dangerous virus to their patients is consistent with the fundamental principle of the medical profession: first, do no harm,” an opinion released alongside the decision stated. “It would be the ‘very opposite of efficient and effective administration for a facility that is supposed to make people well to make them sick with COVID–19.’”

AMA RESPONDS TO SUPREME COURT RULING

The American Medical Association (AMA) released a statement Thursday on the Supreme Court’s ruling. The statement says:
“While the American Medical Association (AMA) is pleased by today’s opinion allowing the Center for Medicare and Medicaid’s (CMS) interim rule requiring COVID-19 vaccines for health care workers to take effect, we are deeply disappointed that the Court blocked the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) emergency temporary standard for COVID-19 vaccination and testing for large businesses from moving forward.

Workplace transmission has been a major factor in the spread of COVID-19. Now more than ever, workers in all settings across the country need commonsense, evidence-based protections against COVID-19 infection, hospitalization, and death — particularly those who are immunocompromised or cannot get vaccinated due to a medical condition. In fact, recent data released by United Airlines shows that before their own vaccine requirement went into effect, on average, more than one United employee was dying each week from the virus; however, today, none of their vaccinated workers are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 despite breakthrough infections and 3,000 current positive employees.”

https://revcycleintelligence.com/news/supreme-court-oks-vaccine-mandate-for-healthcare-workers

If this is such a positive answer for the AMA, then why did it have to go to court? Could it be that they have their own bureaucracy and are not trying to conform to the government policies and laws until they are forced through the courts starting last May?

Shoe fits both groups. Is it the case of the medical practitioners not wishing to follow their IOM’s? If it has been determined by the medical field, name Fauci, ring a bell, that vaccines are a way of stopping the virus, and the courts are backing this thought, then why are practitioners taking it to court. It’s no different than Djokovic at that point in that it undermines the effort to vaccinate by what the laws are. And the medical people are fighting it enough to require the SCOTUS to rule.

And as for killing someone:

“If they told you to kill the Joker for coming in and he broke the no vax rule, he is illegal, a danger to our society and then... off he goes, right?”

Then maybe you can explain the process of abortion, to include late term, so it doesn’t match up with what you just wrote. Something about Roe vs. Wade?

It would take a long time for me to explain my thinking in detail. Basically, thanks to the actions of one or more local and/or national politicians and/or bureaucrats (I certainly don't fully understand your system of government),Australia has come across to people like me as a petulant, willful child.

Did he "lie" on an application? Perhaps not. I'm a citizen of Ireland (and the US) and as such I can travel from France to Germany as easily as I can travel from Michigan to Indiana and as easily as you can travel from Queensland to New South Wales. I've traveled all over Europe without a single stamp in my Irish passport. So if he did travel to Spain it's understandable why he might not have seen it as a foreign country.

There was a way around this which would have been quite reasonable all the way around. The government could have announced that he made one or more errors..."innocent" errors...and,as a result,he will be allowed in to play but will be required to be tested daily while in the country. A positive test will result in him being ordered to "quarantine" and/or to leave the country.

Lastly...when I say "Australia needs him" I'm thinking along the lines of worldwide good will...reputation..."standing".

P.S., Any chance that Nidal is doing an Irish jig in his hotel suite right about now?

Hey, I’m all in on abortion. If you want to stick a metal probe into your kid, suck out the brains, harvest the organs, spin down the stem cells for fun and profit…… go for it.

Just don’t make me pay for it.

As for medical practitioners following vaccine mandates and the vaccine stopping the virus……. Hate to break this to you pal, but I’ve admitted multiple patients that have HAD the original Covid, been vaxxed and boosted…… then got it again within the last 2-3 weeks.

Multiple patients….. we see about 80-90/shift. 20 or so Covid cases/day and admitting 2-3/day.

The really interesting thing was the 16 year old with an upper GI bleed, the 28 year old fitness instructor with congestive heart failure and the 47 year old with pulmonary embolus I’ve admitted over the last month within 72 hours of initial vax and one after the booster. 2 Pfizer and one Moderna….. not to worry, their attending physicians told me that VAERS criteria were not met so they didn’t report it. I’m just one little old ER doctor at a Level 2 hospital. So I can’t be the only one seeing this, and when I talk to friends in Pasadena, Miami and Philly they tell me similar stories.

Like I said, you and your entire family need to lineup and get the thoroughly tested and safe vaccine. Heck, our own FDA and the CDC wouldn’t steer us wrong. They are completely giving us their unbiased, fully researched expert opinion. It’s not like they’re getting money for research, stipends, honoraria, or corporate jobs from the companies they regulate.

Re: 38 - Agreed.

But there’s many FReepers that don’t. Because COVID. Or something.

We imported my stepdaughter’s two cats into Japan. And Japan has very strict surveillance of animal imports due to rabies. Cat must be microchipped. Blood drawn and sent to one of only two laboratories in the US to determine rabies titer (and has to be at a certain level). Cat must be quarantined for six months prior to import (although incredibly rare for cats to develop rabies that far from infection). USDA approved export paperwork which is only good for 10 days once signed. All information reviewed two times by Japan AQS prior to import. If it does not match on arrival, the cat gets held at Haneda until cleared, sent back to the point of origin, or euthanized.

Their country, their rules. Even had a DVM in Japan almost apologetically say the 6 month quarantine prior to import was “excessive”. But had to play by their rules no matter what.

Did get the cats there. And wants to come back to US to go back to College (all that work!). Well, at least it’s easier to fly them back ;)

It always seems to come to a point where someone’s opinion that is not in charge and makes no decisions has to try to blame someone with an opinion that could be just as wrong as the one they fall back on.

All you’ve really accomplished with the abortion remark is displayed just how inconsistent your argument is as it has gone full circle.

It started with Djokovic not following protocol in a country he went to earn money, whether playing or sponsorship, I feel because he didn’t believe in the vaccines and has openly spoke out against them, and truthfully neither do I. He questionably tried to sidestep his way into the country to earn the money using a backdoor to get in that never held any water, and people are saying it’s because of his “right” to compete and not his disbelief of the vaccine. And since I have no say in it either, I don’t give the Australian government a bad time mouth...it’s their country. You want to disagree with them, as you say...go for it.

I’m tired of people trying to instill their personal whims on countries especially when those people try to use the law from their own countries away from the range to accomplish that personal goal and use the media to do it. We ought to stay out of it. It’s none of our business and tennis players do not provide anything but entertainment to the mix. He ain’t that important in the scheme of things. I’m done with it.

like I said, you and your entire family need to be vaccinated and receive boosters since this has been deemed thoroughly tested and is both safe and effective.

Everything will be fine.... Just like the Swine Flu vaccine in 1976, Rotavirus vaccine back in 98-99, Hib vaccine in 2007, Gardisil vaccine, Anthrax vaccine.

The really great news is the manufacturing plants for the Pfizer vaccine and the Johnson and Johnson vaccine are noted for (check the box)

1- exceptional quality and history of complete cooperation with inspections and record keeping

2- history of contaminated products containing pieces of glass, mold and penicillin resistant bacterial contamination.

As for the vaccine “protecting you” from getting really really really sick... but still able to transmit the virus “a little bit”... it’s called a leaky vaccine... Here’s a little information on why leaky vaccines and pandemic prevention without long term studies is kinda important. .... and I know, I know that this is from one of those right wing conspiracy website but give it a quick read and tell me what you think.
