DeSantis says he disagreed with Trump's decision to shut down economy at start of pandemic

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) said Thursday that he disagreed with then-President Trump’s decision to shut down the economy at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

DeSantis appeared on conservative podcast Ruthless, where he claimed that one of his biggest regrets in office is not speaking out “much louder” against the initial COVID-19 shutdown in March 2020.

“Didn’t Trump say that it was up to the States but they wanted to lock down or not?”

Yes. He also called the Governors and asked them to do it, reminding them of all the federal support they would then get. POTUS can’t order them to lockdown, but he can lean heavily and use the bully pulpit. Gov Kemp was publically put on blast by Trump for daring to end the GA lockdown before Fauci approved.

Florida did not have 100% capacity until August 2020. Not sure but I think Georgia was the first large state to open with no coronavirus restrictions. Governor Kemp might be a snake but we have to give credit where it's due.

We have to remember where we were at in March 2020. Thousands of deaths in New York City due to a novel coronavirus. We thought that it would happen in the rest of the country. Thanksfully it did not. But we still took a hit though. 1 million deaths in 2 years (2020-2022). But life goes on.

“We’ve gotta fight the left, and not only fight but beat the left. And that’s what we’re doing in Florida.”

If President Trump cannot stop flapping his gums about how great the failed “vaccines” are then DeSantis is the best person we currently have to run for President. I doubt whether this will be an issue three years from now however and President Trump has learned a lot from what happened. DeSantis would be an excellent running mate and person to carry on the legacy. They both should be careful not to give the MSM anything to use against either of them.

I will say, in a Repub state in a Repub county, where masking was not enforced, it was depressing to me that for a long time I would be the only one out and about without a mask. Then for a long time it would be only me and maybe a couple of others.

Then, thank God, at a certain point it was like someone flipped a switch and all (almost all) the masks came off. Its not an issue here. I get the impression from relatives outside the state that they are still having to deal with this fake crisis. I shake my head.

Who did what when is going to be a big issue coming up, and not just for DeSantis and Trump, but everyone, based on what the country went through. And if you look at exactly what he said, in full context, he appears to be focusing more on Fauci and Pence as part of the administration, than Trump. But there were reports at the time, that Tump did possibly lean on DeSantis to institute something, as described in this article:

Florida Governor, at Long Last, Orders Residents to Stay Home to Avoid Coronavirus

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/01/us/coronavirus-florida-de-santis-trump.html

Gov. Ron DeSantis said the decision corresponded with the “national pause” effectively recommended by the White House.

MIAMI — Florida’s coronavirus cases kept ballooning, especially in the dense neighborhoods of Miami and Fort Lauderdale. Hospitals in Fort Myers and Naples begged for donations of masks and other protective equipment. Young people started to die.

And still, Gov. Ron DeSantis resisted. The man entrusted with keeping many of the country’s grandparents safe did not want to dictate that all Floridians had to stay at home.

What it took for Mr. DeSantis to change his mind on Wednesday and finally issue a statewide order were a phone call with President Trump...

Trump shouldn’t attack any Republicans with such vitriol. He should be-in a leadership role “Here to build up instead of tear down.” There s plenty of criticism to dish out but his style has worn thin. Time to change it.

So sayeth your lord, the Covid Death-o-meter. Dirty little secrets... there actually were deaths from the flu last year. People who had there necks broken and skulls crushed in motorcycle accidents didn't really die FROM Covid. Little kids in the hospital with broken legs with no symptoms are not really there for Covid. And it goes on and on and on...

I'm a huge Trump fan but I will say one thing, in today's dystopian medico-fascist state I don't know if having a germaphobe president is a good idea.

I think that when the deep state intelligence agencies profiled President Trump they knew that a scam Demic would be his Achilles’ heel and that it could be used to fool him into allowing them to dismember out economy and enslave us.

President Trump would be wise to turn on the clot-shot "vaccines" as soon as possible.

The business of America is ensuring freedom for its people to decide for themselves what they want - nothing else, nothing more.

14 days to flatten the curve.
Tweeting “LaW aND oRdeR1111!!” while American cities burned, are two inexcusable actions of Trump.
“Traitorous Advisors!!!!” who he hired doesn’t cut it for me.

No. Trump demanded 30 day shutdown which is why Florida only shut down for 30 days.
