In the 1980s shock jock Howard Stern became the self-declared "King of All Media," but in recent years his relevance has been on the decline. The same can't be said for Joe Rogan. His podcast is now considered more important to up and coming comics than The Tonight Show was even in the era of Johnny Carson.
And even as he courts controversy Rogan shows no signs of backing down.

Just this week, a group of 270 medical experts called on Spotify to cancel the top-rated "The Joe Rogan Experience."...In particular the group of medical professionals called out a December 31, 2021 episode of "The Joe Rogan Experience" podcast, which featured guest Dr. Robert Malone...Yet, even as some in the medical community may have called out Rogan, his power is certainly felt on social media as many users quickly came to his defense.
"The more our media tries to get us to hate Joe Rogan, the more I love the guy," wrote YouTube Channel and Twitch host Gary Sheffield Jr. (@GarysheffieldJr).

Rogan, a comedian and UFC color commentator, launched the podcast in December 2009. Since December 2020 it has been available exclusively on Spotify, while highlights are also uploaded to YouTube. In January 2019, the podcast won Best Comedy Podcast at the iHeartRadio Podcast Awards, and last year it remained the most popular podcast in the United States.
The power of his brand was also on display earlier this month after he very publicly signed up for the Twitter rival Gettr, which was created by former Trump aid Jason Miller. The platform had launched last July, but after Rogan joined up the service reportedly saw a massive influx of users.

This point cannot be emphasized enough.
I've read that punk rock stars and old-school musicians are stunned how yesterday's youth said "question authority" but TODAY they're saying "obey authority."
Almost every generation rejects some of the old and forges their own way. During the pandemic, the quantum of youngsters who parroted the Statist Talking Points was disheartening.
The reason why Rogan came out of nowhere, was because we older folks were listening to the radio and cable. The youngsters who WANTED something that was THEIRS, gravitated to Rogan and podcasting. And thankfully, for the most part, he's Red Pill incarnate.
Don't be deceived. They don't want Rogan silenced because of "misinformation." They want him silenced because he's letting the kidz (and adults) figure it out. He is going to Make Thinking Great Again, and that is inexcusable to Them.
Turner is alive but no doubt not a happy 83 YO.
Howard Stern is so 1990s.
Probably because he knew what a POS McCain was.
I don’t have the exact quote, but I heard Rogan say that Obama was perhaps the greatest president in Rogan’s lifetime and that was enough for me to question anything else he says.
Failed comedy act?
Are you kidding?
I know two 20 something year olds who saw him at the SOLD OUT Boston Garden.
FYI, that means 20000 seats.
The only other comedians that sell out arenas are guys like Kevin Hart.
“wife of the best president that we have had in our lifetime in terms of like a representative of intelligent, articulate people”. That sounds like a quote from Harry Reid and Biden.
It’s impossible to be a libertarian and embrace Obama.
Rogan is a good interviewer, but there is no logically consistent philosophical core to his opinions.
“Plus, she never seemed like she liked all the attention of the White House.”
you forgot the sarcasm tag—the attention is the ONLY thing Michelle liked about being in the white house.
She’s too lazy (and stupid—did you read her thesis?) for the job, although she could change her mind after seeing 4 years of moronic Biden being President without actually having to do anything other than try to read from a teleprompter.
I met Lynn Russell at a Veterans Day event a year and a half ago and had a nice chat. She is horrified at what CNN has become.
Is that watching and listening? A lot of people just listen to podcasts (per their phones, etc.).
You explained it MUCH better than me. Rogan has the ear of the millenials and younger. He is their Rush Limbaugh, although he’s still pretty liberal. I told my son that Joe is only just catching on.....IF he’s as smart as my son thinks he is, then Rogan will follow this trail that his intelligent guests are revealing to him.
Stern is sort of like Lynyrd Skynyd - ground-breaking and legendary but haven’t been relevant for decades, and they carry on with a handful of original members that weren’t the brains in the original bunch, and known for what they did and not what they’re doing. All that’s missing is a tragic plane crash.
Failed comedian?
Why are you on FR?
You a spook?
Of course Joe is a Libertarian.
He is socially liberal about drug use, sexual preference and believes in freedom of choice on almost anything.
Yet, he is pro gun rights, pro military and anti corruption.
Michelle liked being waited on.
She had the largest staff of any First Lady ever.
What she didn’t like was working.
Agreed, she is lazy.
She has never been challenged.
If she ran for POTUS, she would actually have to work.
Plus, someone might actually look into why she was disbarred.
Don’t believe everything Rogan says. He’s in such a hot seat right now that he needs to throw the Democrats some bones.
Spotify not only owns Rogan as an exclusive, it has also made a deal with the Obamas for some podcasts.
So he positioning himself in the middle and supporting Spotify his sponsor, who wants to own the audio category — music as well as podcasts. See a great interview with Spotify CEO in Forbes.
Rogan did us a great service but running Dr. Malone recently. So we need to look at the long picture, I think.
Lovely projection.
I worship Jesus Christ, the Song of God Almighty.
Big Mike....
I think Ted is still alive.
