Well done! That’s even better than the original. In the remarks below the video, I notice 7 Nations played at the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games near us in NC. Small world.

My mistake. False memory of mistook for another singer.

I love how they refer to it as “a modern spiritual.”

“One Toke Over the Line”—a song about a train ride.

An underground hit that became a conservative classic powered Guy Drake onto the national chart for his sole appearance. Nixonites won't like his dig at President Nixon's proposed Family Assistance Plan, which would have instituted a guaranteed annual income.
Drake's follow-up, a takedown of the "flower children," is also a classic, even though it didn't chart nationally.
Welfare Cadillac (1970)
The Marching Hippies (1971)

Chris Clark of Santa Cruz, Calif., a lesser-known denizen of Berry Gordy's Motown diskery, waxed this disc, which was then issued on the Motown subsidiary label VIP. It barely charted, "bubbling under" the Billboard Hot 100 in the fall of that year, but it should have been a much bigger hit. Nonetheless, it's my favorite song from 1966.

That may be what they had to tell Lawrence to get it on the show. Probably secret potheads.

This group, from Chicago, made their sole appearance on the Billboard Hot 100 with this psychedelic classic.

The guitarist was by no means a one hit wonder (Ted Nugent).

Hard to say if The Five Man Electric Band was a One Hit Wonder.
‘Absolutely Right’ by The Five Man Electrical Band Peaked at #26 on the Billboard Hot 100.... October 16, 1971.
I guess a Hit needs to be defined a bit. Top 10? Top 40? Top 100?
My vote is for Top 40.

I first noticed how the news could slant to the left from a report referring to the song “Welfare Cadillac” back in 1970. News report was about Johnny Cash visiting the Nixon White House. Piece was brief but it stated that President Nixon asked Cash to sing “Welfare Cadillac” but Cash wouldn’t. That was the end of it. It was inferring that Cash was taking a political stand. Far from it. Reason Cash didn’t sing it was because he didn’t know the song.

Norman Greenbaum’s “Spirit in the Sky.” For a Christian hymn, the theology is rather unique. ("Never been a sinner, never sinned, I have a friend in Jesus.")

The Troggs had a single “With a Girl Like You” that hit #1 in the U.K. but only charted here in the U.S..I remember that song and liked it. When I was checking on the Troggs' hits, the ranking of that song was confusing. It was the B side on Wild Things when that song went to #1 here in the U.S. but made #29 on its own. Must have re-released it as the A side on that single. Rather than sort all that out, I just went with Love is All Around because that made into the top 10 on its own and disqualified The Troggs as one-hit wonders.

Definitely not a one hit wonder but I like this cover better,I'll still go with the original. The R.E.M. cover started off well until the supporting vocals. IMO, that really didn't work. Matter of taste, I guess.
