That was such a catchy tune. Sakamoto sang it almost throughout with a smile, and the orchestration makes it sound light and happy, but the lyrics are actually very sad, lamenting a lost love.
I once read a claim that the love was lost due to the a-bomb, but I doubt that’s the case, since the seasonal references in the lyrics contradict that possibility.
