One year after the storming of the Capitol, six out of 10 Americans believe the country's democracy is in danger of collapse, according to a poll released Wednesday.
Seventy-six percent of those surveyed in the poll by Quinnipiac University said they think political instability in the United States is a bigger danger than foreign threats.
A majority of those polled -- 58 percent -- said they think the nation's democracy is in danger of collapse. Thirty-seven percent disagreed.

“I wouldn’t describe it as a danger.”
Neither do I. I think of the welder or blacksmith analogy. You have pieces of cold steel that aren’t how you want them. You heat them. Sparks fly, there are smells of things burning (paint, etc). You use more melted steel (welding rods), or pound on a red hot chunk. Pieces of hot meal fly. Then you’re done. Your product cools off. Strong. What you want. A little cleanup and very nice.
Forged steel, which has been softened and hammered on, becomes stronger than it was before.
Agreed. Democracy is a crappy way of choosing leaders. There are simply too many stupid democrats.
Like ancient Greece, "City States". Very well put, bert. I had not thought of the degeneration of the American Republic in those terms before, but it's a very apropos description.
Except unlike Greece, where the City States were often in conflict with each other, our City States form a "coalition" of Leftists who are in constant conflict with the rest of the country.
Thank you for your post. Most thought-provoking.
