Recently, Molly Taft at Gizmodo proclaimed, "California's Epic Snowstorms Are Great News." Great news, indeed, with snowfall running some 150% above normal for the Sierra Nevadas, or "200% of average for snow water equivalent."
For years, climate alarmists bemoaned the multiyear drought that, they insisted, would utterly "destroy" California. The drought, they wrote, was the product of global warming and was thus more or less permanent. Say goodbye to California agriculture; life in California cities; and, eventually, life on Earth.
Those claims were false, as this year's massive Sierra snow-pack shows. When the snow melts in the spring, that water will fill the reservoirs, irrigate the crops, and help fulfill the needs of California cities. Even before the strong start to this year's snowfall, the 2012โ2016 drought had begun to abate. If the snowfall continues through the spring, drought conditions will abate in much of the state.
That's not good enough for environmentalists, who respond that it will take more than one snowfall to end drought conditions, which may be true, and who predict that by 2050, there may be successive years with no snow-pack at all โ which seems like wild speculation.

Good news for California. If only their state government wasn’t a cesspool of corruption for all that springs to life in the state.
Don’t count your chickens...Rumor has it Newsome has directed all trucks in the state to drive to the mountains, load up all the snow, and dump it into the Ocean.
Does CA have the reservoir capacity to take advantage of heavy snowfall? I thought I read where most of the heavy snow melt will just run into the ocean.
Every state and every country has weather cycles. California seems to be on the extreme end of the feast or famine weather cycle. Everyone with four functional brain cells can figure that out.
Well they do dump millions of gallons into the ocean every spring so there is that.
The pacific ocean will be happy to get all that fresh water released for the delta smelt
That only means they'll have floods and mudslides in the spring, and they'll demand a couple of hundred billion from Brandon to repair the damage.
(Waits patiently for the spring melt inducing flooding, when we’ll be told that the FLOODING is all because of climate change).
That’s what I hear.
Floods and mudslides caused by climate change.
When they proclaim man-made climate change from a single season, they are confusing weather with climate.
Don’t let them get away with that.
Cali brother’s up at Mammoth every other day skiing. Skiing here in New England is like downhill skating.
Most reservoirs are pretty low right now. They can take whatever snow melt there is now and much more.
I never cared much for Wednesdays anyhow.
increased snowfall is due to globull warming!
Uh, does this guy know about Januburied, just 5 years ago?
That winter and the subsequent winters up through 2019 filled the reservoirs, supposedly with enough to last 5 years.
The drought abated a long time ago, and the only thing that brought it back was the water releases.
It's snowing and raining as much or more then it ever did in California.
Yeah, I remember the Oroville dam spewing water where it wasn’t supposed to be spewing it.
Lake Meade has been very low for a long time
is there a chance this year will help?
Depends on how much snow the get in Colorado and Utah. The snow we get up here goes to Tahoe and Pyramid lake and various reservoirs in Cali. And a LOT gets dumped into the Pacific by the water masters in Cali.
