GOP Pushes Back on Democratic 'Big Lie'

resident Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris traveled to Georgia Tuesday to push their party's bill to federalize U.S. election procedures on terms favorable to Democrats. "We are going right to the belly of the beast, or ground zero, for voter suppression, voter subversion and obstruction," senior White House official Cedric Richmond told Politico.

Led by Stacey Abrams, who refused to accept the results of the 2018 Georgia gubernatorial election (she lost), Democrats have used the unsupported notion of widespread voter suppression as the foundation for two bills -- the "For the People Act" in the House and the later "Freedom to Vote Act" in the Senate -- that would throw out every state voter ID law in the country; that would legalize ballot harvesting nationwide; that would mandate universal mail-in ballots; that would mandate nationwide same-day and automatic voter registration; that would mandate nationwide acceptance of late-arriving mail-in ballots; that would remake the campaign finance system; and much, much more.

One bill has already passed the House, where it is easier to pass partisan measures, even when one party has only a tiny majority. But there is no way in the world the bill can pass the Senate, where Democrats do not control a majority of the seats. There's no proof Democrats can even win a simple majority vote -- that is, muster all 50 Democrats for the bill and then rely on Vice President Harris to break the tie -- much less that they can overcome the 60-vote hurdle posed by a Republican filibuster.

So of course Democrats want to get rid of the filibuster. But even if they could do that, they would be left with the 50-votes-plus-Harris strategy, and at the moment, at least two Democratic senators -- Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema -- aren't going along. You can't enact anything in the Senate with 48 votes.

And now, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and his GOP allies are pushing back. "The political left keeps pitching their big lie that mainstream state voting laws are somehow 'Jim Crow 2.0' if the governor who signs the bill happens to be a Republican," McConnell said last week. "In one of the states that triggered this meltdown, the new proposals mandated more days of early voting than many Democrat-run states provide. Our democracy is not in crisis. Repeating this rhetoric does not make it factual. The 2020 election saw the highest turnout in more than 100 years."

As for the filibuster, McConnell noted that just a few years ago, in 2017, 32 Senate Democrats -- including then-Sen. Kamala Harris -- signed a letter opposing changes in the legislative filibuster. And a decade before that, current Majority Leader Charles Schumer vigorously resisted getting rid of the filibuster. "The ideologues in the Senate want to turn what the Founding Fathers called the cooling saucer of democracy into the rubber stamp of dictatorship," Schumer said in 2005. "They believe if you get 51% of the vote, there should be one-party rule. ... They want to make this country into a banana republic where if you don't get your way, you change the rules. It'll be doomsday for democracy if we do."

Doomsday for democracy if the filibuster were eliminated! Now, of course, Schumer believes the precise opposite of what he said back then. Given his statements and actions, it is no exaggeration to say that Schumer's hypocrisy, when it comes to the legislative filibuster, is simply off the scale. (McConnell's is not; when then-President Donald Trump urged majority Republican senators to get rid of the legislative filibuster, McConnell said no.)

Why is this fight happening now? Democrats appear to be deeply frustrated by their inability to pass their current top priorities -- the far-reaching voting bills, plus yet another huge spending bill -- with their 50-vote non-majority in the Senate. Their ambitions have outstripped their power in the Senate for the last year. Now the approach of midterm elections makes it even more difficult to get what they want done. So they are lashing out at Republicans and seeking to change the rules. Look for more, not less, of that as the elections grow nearer.

The GOP talking and pushing back is great, but it’s cheap, actions are worth a lot more, let’s see if that happens.

Interesting that due to covid, Mayor Muriel Bowser in DC is going to require residents of DC to show photo ID verifying vaccination when they leave their homes. I don’t hear how this is “racist”, just so if you are asking voters to verify who they are when they select the people who govern us. The heads of the major airlines endorsed this garbage yet I wonder what their reaction would be to banning having to show photo ID when you are a passenger on one of their planes?

“For the People Act” = “For the inbred swamp people who want power forever Act”. There once was a time where the people in power were so blatant in their quest for absolute power they declared themselves Gods. Such claims are long gone but not the desire by the insane monsters who are always attracted to the lure of power.

Ironically in his speechifying, Brandon urged people to choose his Voting Rights Acts (there are 4 in the House) using comparisons of good guys as opposed to bad guys, like choosing to be like Lincoln instead of Orval Faubus, etc.

🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣

(inside joke for the historically challenged - Lincoln was a Republican and Faubus, a Democrat.)

There are two types of voter suppression. The first is obstructing legitimate voters in casting ballots, the second is stuffing the ballot box with illegal votes. For every illegal vote for one side cancels a legal vote for the other side. This is the voter suppression that the Democrats want nation wide and at all levels of government. At that point all elections will be run with all the honesty of Stalin's USSR.

Support more aggressive candidates for elected office instead of undercutting them

Demand equal treatment for 1/6 people still in jail

Demand Fauci be fired

Label Democrats fascists for supporting the nationalization of our elections

Sue NYC for allowing non-citizens the right to vote

Sue California for allowing free healthcare for illegals

I could go one, but it’s not a coincidence that Ted Cruz showed some grit yesterday after he called 1/6 protesters terrorists and went groveling to Tucker Carlson seeking forgiveness, a couple more scenes like yesterday and I suspect he will go back into hiding

Yes, some Republicans support most of what I posted but the majority led by McConnell are okay with being Democrat Lite

“Interesting that due to covid, Mayor Muriel Bowser in DC is going to require residents of DC to show photo ID verifying vaccination when they leave their homes.”

Every DC resident leaving their house should wear a Star of David/yellow star. When approached by the local cops checking their status...a quick “Heil Hitler” salute should be given.

But then...the residents DID vote for this.

The same GOP that allowed the steal in 2020 is not to be trusted to “push back” against anything. Its all an act. Theater meant to convince the base that they are serious about confronting the monster they created. How about the Republican Party admit it betrayed President Trump and all his supporters. How about they purge the swine that committed the betrayal and then beg on hands and knees for forgiveness. Lets start there.

Gotta give McConnell credit where credit is due. He done good.

Exactly, that was point in responding to someone about what the GOP should be doing.

I’m not suggesting the R’s go completely insane, remember the day Trump took office, a large nwumber of D’s boycotted his inauguration and one filed impeachment charges in the first few days of his Presidency. No Democrat spoke out against him.

Democrats organized a concerted media effort to get Trump removed from office by any means necessary.

Democrats openly supported the BLM and Antifa riots in the summer of 2020, virtually no Republicans are demanding anything about the 1/6 protesters stuck in prison.

Virtually no R’s in Washington are hammering Biden on a daily basis over his Covid response, the D’s openly blamed Trump for every death during his administration and the blame was spouted continually from every Democrat.

Top Democrats including Biden openly doubted the vaccines developed under Trump, now they want mandatory vaccines and vaccine passports, where are the R’s in Washington on this issue, all I hear is crickets except from a very few.

IMO, the R’s stand a great chance of taking back the House and Senate in 2022, if they get a 30-40 vote swing in the House they will tout their election strategy, I think the R’s strategy is playing not to lose, instead of playing to crush the opposition and get a 60-70 vote swing or more.
