The House committee examining the Jan. 6 attack disclosed on Tuesday that it had interviewed the man at the center of a right-wing conspiracy theory about who provoked the violence, noting that he had denied reports he urged protesters into the Capitol at the behest of federal law enforcement agencies.
The committee said its investigators spoke in November with the man, Ray Epps, who was seen on video urging people to march into the Capitol. Some Republican members of Congress and other supporters of former President Donald J. Trump have promoted a theory that Mr. Epps was working for the F.B.I. and encouraging the attack at its direction.
As evidence, they have cited the fact that Mr. Epps was at one point listed on the bureau’s wanted list but was then removed from it without being arrested or charged with any wrongdoing.
In a statement, the House committee said Mr. Epps told the panel he is not an F.B.I. informant and was not working at the direction of law enforcement agencies when he encouraged protesters to enter the building.
“The Select Committee is aware of unsupported claims that Ray Epps was an F.B.I. informant based on the fact that he was on the F.B.I. wanted list and then was removed from that list without being charged,” Tim Mulvey, a spokesman for the House committee, said in the statement. “The Select Committee has interviewed Mr. Epps. Mr. Epps informed us that he was not employed by, working with or acting at the direction of any law enforcement agency on Jan. 5 or 6 or at any other time, and that he has never been an informant for the F.B.I. or any other law enforcement agency.”

Then why isn’t he in political 3rd world prison.
Ok, NYT, then why hasn’t Epps been charged if he was one of the instigators of the “insurrection” at the Capitol, urging people to breach the barriers, even showing them the way? He says he wasn’t an FBI informant, so case closed?
Ok so did he deny that he urged protesters into the Captitol? Did he deny working on behest of federal law enforcement? What exactly is his story? Something is not adding up.
Did anybody explain why he was removed from their January 6 most-wanted list?
This story has been written for the brain-damaged people who also believe the covid narrative.
You can sell these progtards ANYTHING. Just slap a blue jersey on it, and you're good to go.
Why do they need to debunk it? The NYT tells us right in the headline that it’s unfounded, so we certainly don’t need any proof or investigation of any kind.
The poor NYT must have used up their “baseless” allotment and had to find a different word.
More importantly, even if he was not part of any law enforcement or FBI, why hasn't he been arrested? There are vids showing him doing much more than probably 75% of the people in custody now. He denied any verbal instigation and it is easily verifiable he's lying about that - what else has he lied about and was he under oath when interviewed?
Not sure how in the heck its evidence against the most plausible explanation which is that:
1) He was identified by pics by some feds as a man they wanted to charge.
2) But then they decided not to charge him because some other feds recognized he was one of theirs.
Not sure what other theory fits the evidence better. Do they have any evidence that does not fit that theory?
Don’t miss the meta message. If the Committee on Jan 6 has to mount a counter attack, that means this is a genuine and potentially explosive issue.
We know from the Whitmer kidnap plot, and others before, that the FBI plays this incitement and entrapment game quite a bit, so it is not crazy to think they played a role on January 6th.
I knew it was from the mainstream media from the title. “Unfounded theory”, how predictable.
So far, not a damn thing.
If the things that Ray Epps said and did do not merit charges being filed against him, then under what scenario could words and actions of ANYONE not directly involved be considered worthy of charges? For example, how could Trump or anybody else somehow be charged for the words they said or didn’t say if Ray Epps words, “you must go INTO the Capital” or the words and cajoling by tower commander man are not considered worth even looking into.
Tim Mulvey: Were you acting as an agent of law enforcement?
Ray Epps: No.
Funny how there's multiple video of him telling people to enter the Capital but he was never arrested and charged.
The New York Times: SELF-PROCLAIMED newspaper of record.
Doesn’t the old grey lady ever get tired of being wrong?
.
It couldn’t be any more obvious.
If he wasn’t inserted and paid to be there, the FBi would be using a megaphone to say he wasn’t an asset.
Put his words into Donald Trump’s mouth and Trump would’ve been executed. Epps spent days inciting a riot.
NYT writes whatever they’re told to write.
.
Let me guess.
They’re going to “debunk” the conspiracy theory that FBI, other government agents, & informants were provocateurs of a false flag on January 6th.
When will subpoenas be issued by the Jan 6th kangaroo committee to the cop fighters and window breakers?
They seemed like a fairly small number of people, perhaps that’s where an investigation should start.
You know with the actual perpetrators of the riot, instead of a political fishing expedition intended to manipulate the biases of the urban voter.
Why did so many people in high places, including FBI agents, not know who Ray Epps was for the longest time. Don’t people have computers now?
