The spread of the Omicron variant is pushing Covid towards being an endemic disease that humanity can live with, although it remains a pandemic for now, the European Union's (EU) drug watchdog said Tuesday (Jan 11).
The European Medicines Agency (EMA) also expressed doubts about giving a fourth vaccine shot to the general population, saying repeated boosters were not a "sustainable" strategy.
"Nobody knows exactly when we will be at the end of the tunnel but we will be there," Dr Marco Cavaleri, head of vaccine strategy at the Amsterdam-based regulator, told journalists.
"With the increase of immunity in population — and with Omicron, there will be a lot of natural immunity taking place on top of vaccination — we will be fast moving towards a scenario that will be closer to endemic," he added.
But he stressed that "we should not forget we are still in a pandemic", noting the huge burden on healthcare from the surge in Omicron.
The World Health Organization (WHO) said earlier Tuesday that more than half of people in Europe were on track to catch the variant in the next two months.

We have all been saying this from the start of Omicron. It is the media and the Democrats who are pushing this crap on us.

I see patients daily via telehealth. MOST with omicron covid appear as if they have a mild sinus infection or cold. Of course, the very elderly, folks who smoke heavily, have COPD, immune issues, etc. are more at risk ... and some are hospitalized — but the MAJORITY of folks have symptoms for 3-5 days and then are FINE.
This nonsense needs to stop. Corporate America needs to get its head out of its ass and get Americans back to work!!

In this country, the Media\Dems(same\same) need to keep feeding the approved narrative/propaganda to the low info crowd to keep fear alive until early November.
They can’t afford to take their foot off the gas pedal until after elections. As was the case in 2020, mail in ballots, remote ballot boxes, etc. will be needed for Dims to win.
This could become entertaining to watch how they manage to string it out.

That’s how Covid has ALWAYS been. A big nothingburger for *most* people.
Some of us have been saying this since 2019.
If there was ever a chance to contain this, it was lost by the end of October, 2019.
Once China failed to recognize and contain this, there was only one possible end state - that COVID-19 would become an endemic disease that everyone would catch, eventually, and works catch multiple times, as new variants appeared, that a lot of people would die, and that everyone who survived would be not immune to it as a disease but largely resistant to it’s most significant pathologies.
In other words, it is going to become just another corona virus, spreading just another variant of the common cold.
My mid 50’s something sister in law who has smoked since she was 13, is prone to pneumonia and probably has lungs as black as coal just got over it within 10 days! No hospital ...no nothing.
That’s exactly how I have been. My daughter had the “crud” a week ago. She has had three vaxes and was pretty sick. She wouldn’t go to the doctor because to her, she was vaxxed so she was safe. LOL
Two days ago I started getting it, whatever “it” is. To me it just feels like the winter crud with burning stopped up sinuses, scratchy throat, occasional headache, runny nose, and coughing. Unless I get a high fever or it impacts my asthma more than it has, I’m not getting tested. Why would I go to a place full of sick people to see if I’m sick with Omicron? Nope, not doing it.
