Sonoma County issues voluntary stay-at-home order, bans large gatherings in response to omicron

Sonoma County is the first Bay Area county to restrict gatherings in response to the spread of the omicron variant in the region.

On Monday, the county banned indoor gatherings of more than 50 people and outdoor gatherings of more than 100 people while asking residents to "stay home as much as possible for the next 30 days and limit interactions with those outside of their immediate household."

“Our case rates are at their highest level since the pandemic began and our hospitalizations are climbing at an alarming rate as well,” health officer Dr. Sundari Mase said in a statement. “We are seeing widespread transmission occurring within unvaccinated groups as well as some transmission among vaccinated individuals.”

Sonoma County estimates that 78% of residents over the age are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. The new health order defines a gathering "as any public or private event or convening that brings people together in a single room or single space at the same time, such as in an auditorium, gymnasium, stadium, arena, large conference room, wedding venue, meeting hall, or any other indoor or outdoor space." Schools, places of worship and venues "open to the public as part of regular operations such as shopping malls, stores, restaurants/food facilities and museums" are exempted.

Life in Idaho feels completely normal and sane. There’s no fear, gloom or doom there.

That's how it is here in our part of NV. I never wear a mask and I'm far from alone.

In Connecticut and western mass, places like Hartford, Springfield and other large areas or towns with smaller regional Christmas events all waited till after the new year to implement any mask mandates.

Just like Boston whaler until mid January to implement the vaccine passport for indoor dining, got to get it and all that revenue from Christmas and New Year’s first.

Exactly. They are so full of themselves they don’t believe they can ever be wrong about anything. They went with the vaccine is the only way to end Covid mantra for so long they really believe it because they can’t except that the science they subscribe to could have possibly been wrong.

I was in Florida for Christmas and New Year’s. Life was essentially normal. The only sign of a pandemic was employees at certain big box stores, like Home Depot and Walmart, having to wear masks. Otherwise you only had a few people wearing them. Restaurants were full, downtown sidewalks were bustling with people eating out, getting an ice cream, etc.

I just got back from running three hours of errands in Palo Alto, CA. Nothing but nag, nag, nag, nag — “pull your mask up, sir. Over your nose, Sir. Higher, sir. Even higher.” Two CVS stores, an Apple store, a Petsmart store.

I returned a cable box to Xfinity and, to their credit, no nagging. But I might have had the mask over my nose.

Three things strike me:
1. Don’t these people ever read anything about the efficacy of masks and mortality rates of the disease?
2. Aren’t they tired of this ridiculous charade?
3. How can they be so blindly obedient to the Know-Nothing idiots in the health departments? Why don’t they rebel even a little?

What a tough decision. Go back to Idaho in the depth of winter and be free. Or stay in CA and suffer this crap.
