GOP steps up bid to persuade Hogan to run for Senate in Md.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and other top Republicans are stepping up a personal campaign to persuade Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan to run for the Senate and help the party's chances of regaining control of the chamber.

The recruitment effort has included McConnell's wife, Elaine Chao, who held Cabinet positions in the Trump and George W. Bush administrations. Moderate Senate Republicans, including Susan Collins of Maine, have also been in direct contact with Hogan to note that his centrist brand of politics would be welcome in a chamber riven with partisanship. Several other Washington officials have made financial pledges or shared internal polling to try to convince Hogan that he has a path to victory.

President Joe Biden carried Maryland by 32 percentage points in 2020 and a Republican hasn't won a statewide federal office in more than 30 years. Hogan, who is prevented by term limits from running for reelection, has long resisted the idea of challenging Democratic incumbent Sen. Chris Van Hollen. One of the GOP's most prominent critics of former President Donald Trump, Hogan has toyed with mounting a presidential campaign in 2024.

Couple of things. They want another virulent anti-Trump Republican in the Senate (should be win). AND they want to prevent any conservative from getting the nomination so that only moderate-liberal debate goes on.

It's the same old game.

Hogan is their latest Arlen Specter.

What would probably happen, Hogan runs for Senate and loses because the Liberals in Maryland are okay with him being Governor but US Senator is no go, Hogan loses and is never heard from again as a politician.

Whatever chance he might have is gone because any conservative in Maryland is lukewarm about this and Democrats will never accept him as a Senator.

Hogan told everyone he wrote in Reagan in 2020 so I will happily write in Trump.

In other words he's a RINO. One has to be a RINO to get elected governor in a deep blue state like Maryland and maybe he is the best that could be hoped for as a senator from such a state. But would he be a reliable Republican vote?

I like the McConnell/Chao double team. “Join the senate (swamp) and set your family up like Rockefellers”. One look at the McConnell/Chao/Foremost Group billions would tempt any east coast RINO.

Wait, I thought he was running for president.

Now, back to senate.

Hogan is a deep state as they come.

Needs a good party purging.

Maryland was Trump’s worst state. A conservative will never win there. The options are a RINO or a wacko Dem.

There may be a few procedural issues where it would be better to have a RINO than a Dem, but generally it doesn’t matter.

“Reliable” and “ Republican” should never be used in the same sentence when referring to Larry Hogan.

The Establishment Republicans may want to play footsie with rabid Democrat Socialists, but the DemSocs will never accept them as equals.

But would he be a reliable Republican vote?

The only reliable thing Hogan would be is a virulently anti-Trump stooge for the dummocraps. He does not have, as the libtard Susan Collins thinks, a centrist brand of politics. He has an idiot's brand, an assistant dummocrap's brand. We do not need Hogan in the Senate!! Let us limit his ability to damage America to MD.

He will not be getting my vote. Back when Senators were appointed, they represented their state. Now, they all think they are mini Presidents and represent the nation.

Hogan is bad for Maryland and bad for America.

Just say no to Hulky.

Might as well have a Dem in there. At least they won’t be credited as “REPUBLICAN attacks Trump.”

Hogan is NOT a republican, even RINOs are more conservative than him, he is a Trojan Horse democrat.

As a MD’er and conservative I would write in Mickey Mouse before I voted for Hogan

If we keep electing and re-electing Assistant Democrats they will keep assisting Democrats to a permanent majority.
