Weather disaster deaths hit 10-year high in mainland US

Washington (AFP) – Nearly 700 people died due to natural disasters in the contiguous United States in 2021 -- the most since 2011, said a federal weather agency in a report released Monday.

The year "was marked by extremes across the US, including exceptional warmth, devastating severe weather and the second-highest number of billion-dollar weather and climate disasters on record," said the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

The death toll for weather-related disasters in the 48 mainland states plus the District of Columbia totaled 688, more than twice 2020's tally of 262, the agency said.

Human activity has caused life-threatening climate change resulting in more severe weather events across the globe.

Rachel Cleetus, policy director and lead economist for the Climate and Energy Program at the Union of Concerned Scientists, called the statistics "sobering."

"The devastating toll and trauma imposed by extreme weather and climate disasters have, and continue to, hit some people harder than others with communities of color, low-income communities, and communities that have endured multiple disasters often bearing the brunt of its impacts," she said.

Human activity has caused life-threatening climate change resulting in more severe weather events across the globe.

If this is so, why are the stats equal to those from 10 years ago. For that matter, why are the stats from 2020 so low.

The usual garbage global warming news article with a trash analysis provided by an “expert”.

Deaths due to “weather disasters” in any given year, vary from locality to locality even under the same weather conditions and have multiple variables in their cause of which the weather itself is only one part. It is not a given that “deaths in weather disasters” automatically equates to “more extreme weather”.

Notice also that the article selectively uses “since 2011”, which ignores “deaths during weather disasters” greater than those in 2021 or 2011 that occurred in certain years before 2011. In general, deaths in natural disasters has decreased over the years, on a per 100,000 person basis due to improvements and changes in non-weather factors, like building codes.

Not true according to the evidence.

10 year sample size is worthless. Equivalent to sampling 10 voters and then projecting national election results.

Total bullsh*t.

The only reason for increased fatalities and escalating costs is because of increased population densities in areas prone to severe storms (hurricanes, tornados, floods.) From a historical perspective, the severity and frequency of storms has seen a decrease over the decades - and, in some cases there has been an extended lull.

Insofar as fires, the explanation is pure stupidity. Allowing environmentalist wackos to make policy regarding forestation practices has led to extreme buildup of dead timber and other debris in the nation’s forests. Thus, when a fire does occur, the intensity is 10-fold more severe in its consequence.

As usual, the leftist want it both ways - create the problem, and then offer their asinine solution to a problem they created. Unfortunately, we have allowed the feral fascist government to control every aspect of life - including weather / climate forecasting. We have also allowed the feral fascist government to pervert science and research with insane levels of tax-payer funding - funding that is only provided to those entities who give the government the “right” answer to their pre-conceived designs.

700 weather related deaths in a nation of 330 million means that .00000212% of the population died over the course of a full year "due to weather."

Wish they put that much attention on the percentage of people who die suddenly after getting "vaccinated" - which is a much higher percentage.

There were 800 murders in Chicago last year.

Still can’t beat the devastation of the 1880s through the 1930s.
Snow storms of 1880-1881? Or 1888?
or the heat of NYC in 1896? How about 1936?
Maybe the 1900 Galveston Hurricane?

Here are some more from 1940 till 2020.
