Yes, and if the Iranians killed some former member of the Trump Administration, including Trump himself, those "severe consequences" would likely amount to a letter saying that the Ayatollah is a very naughty boy.
This Administration wouldn't do a damn thing other than probably drink a toast when they thought nobody was looking. Or at least, nobody other than their own friends in the press who likely would toast it as well.
