It’s kind of like when Gordon Sumner became “Sting”. As John Wayne would say, "that's only half a name."

Hi.
Do you hear that sound?
It’s Gamal Attaturk spinning in his grave.

Lviv, Ukraine has gone through a number of name changes. During WWI, it was Lemberg. Then it became Lwów, Lvov, and finally Lviv as it came under Polish, Soviet, Nazi German, and again Soviet rule before becoming part of an independent Ukraine. If Putin has his way, it might once again become Lvov.

It will be Lwów, before it’s Lvov.

Lots of name changes after the Bolshevik coup in 1917. And after the fall of the CCCP in 1991.
For example in Western Ukraine the city of Lviv or Lwów or Lemberg or Львов (L’vov).

I have never seen it written as anything other than Türkiye in any document written in Turkish.

Better yet, Ottomanistan.

Another one is Crna Gora for Montenegro.
Apparently the u with dots over it in Turkish is pronounced the same as the German u-umlaut...in other words, a sound most native speakers of English don't know how to make properly. Plus American keyboards don't have a way to type the letters which have diacritical marks over them.
Maybe instead of telling other people how to spell Turkey they should address some of their own history which they have been denying.

There’s no “ö” neither, but don’t tell that to Mötley Crue.
