As ridiculous as it is, Durbin’s thought-process has a single destination: thought-control.
His solutions are merely mechanical, i.e., if guns kill, stop the guns, which denies individual responsibility. But those mechanics won’t work, as criminals will commit crimes. So the one solution devolves into the next, like an Escher painting, self-reinforcing and infinitely useless.
No system or technology can ever suppress human nature, so the ultimate solution is to deny human nature, aka, free will. Durban thinks he’s God.

This actually prevented a carjacking here in Virginia recently. The perp tried to carjack a newer Mustang, but couldn't figure out how to operate the stick. He fiddled with it until the cops showed up and tried to get away in another vehicle, but was apprehended.
The solution is cutting off all the money from the drug cartels - to the Democrat party.
Nah; bring back the guillotine and public hangings, televise them so the criminals will know that they will get their 15 minutes of fame.
Try’em, convict’em and kill’em publicly.
All sentences to carried out on the first Friday night after conviction, no more 30/40 years of appeals!
