COVID-19 cases continue to increase rapidly across the United States. This surge is driven by the Omicron variant, which CDC’s Nowcast model projects may account for approximately 95% of cases. On January 5, 705,264 new cases were reported, more than doubling the January 2021 peak. The entire country is now experiencing high levels of community transmission. Hospitalizations are also on the rise.

(The first local peaks of the Omicron wave may have started this week around NYC and DC (if it was not a weather related reporting delay). Next week we will likely see more cresting occur.)

Here are highlights from this last weekly report:

Reported Cases

As of January 5, 2022, the current 7-day moving average of daily new cases (586,391) increased 85.7% compared with the previous 7-day moving average

New Hospital Admissions

The current 7-day daily average for December 28, 2021–January 4, 2022, was 16,458. This is a 60.2% increase from the prior 7-day average

Deaths The current 7-day moving average of new deaths (1,246) has increased 14.4% compared with the previous 7-day moving average (1,089). As of January 6, 2022, a total of 829,740 COVID-19 deaths have been reported in the United States.

Testing

The percentage of COVID-19 NAATs (nucleic acid amplification tests)* that are positive (percent positivity) is increasing in comparison to the previous week. The 7-day average of percent positivity from NAATs is now 27.2%.

Vaccinations

513.8 million vaccine doses have been administered in the United States. Overall, about 245.3 million people, or 73.9% of the total U.S. population, have received at least one dose of vaccine. About 206.8 million people, or 62.3% of the total U.S. population, have been fully vaccinated (73% of Adults fully vaccinated - 86% of Adults have had at least one dose). About 72.3 million additional/booster doses in fully vaccinated people have been reported. The 7-day average number of administered vaccine doses reported to CDC per day was 1,075,148, a 3.1% increase from the previous week.

I have a technical question. We have read that the hospitalization numbers include people with a positive Omicron test but who aren't there BECAUSE of Omicron.

Is the follow-up, therefore, that the CDC fatalities ALSO reflect inflation, e.g. car accident fatalities where the dead drivers tested positive at admission?

Cases is meaninglessź death counts tell the tale. If hardly anyone is dying from omicron, there is no reason for shutting the country down.

It is a compilation of reports from all the States and Territories. They may use different approaches.

NY State just tried to break out the “with” from the “because of” hospitalizations. They said about half were just “with”.

We don’t have comparison data from earlier (US) waves, to know if Omicron is better (less severe in these terms) than other variants, but everything seems to indicate that it is less severe, and likely a higher percentage of hospitalizations for other reasons are just coincidentally also infected with COVID.

Another significant consideration, is the length of stay. Omicron hospitalizations in South Africa averaged much shorter (1-4 days) than Delta or earlier strains. As more people go into the hospital, more are also getting out, so capacity is not as strained.

Mortality from Omicron is looking like it is in the ballpark with the annual flu. By the time it has run its course (next month?), it may well stabilize as less fatal than an average flu. Delta is worse than flu, but it seems to be being crowded out by Omicron.

It seems that many Governments have come to your (and my) conclusion, that lockdowns and such are not warranted - and they likely would not have much impact on the disease anyway. There is more of a “Let’er Rip” attitude, of stand back, and it will be over soon.

The next week or two will likely start seeing significant cresting of this wave in the USA and Europe.

Understood. My question, is if it’s been proven that the erroneous hospitalization numbers are begetting error propagation in the fatality counts. I haven’t seen anyone track that through, but it seems highly likely....I doubt busy hospital clerks are removing the Omicron stamp as the patient becomes a corpse.

Where have you seen results of deaths SPECIFICALLY for omicron? Remember, until recently, the tests couldn’t even distinguish eteeen variants, and it is very very doubtful,that everyone’s blood tests were sent out 5o specialized labs to determine what variant. The majority were done with pcr tests, or whatever they are called, and even the cdc stated they are in accurate for determining variants

There are a few .ayers filing cases, but the outcry should be massive and unrelenting... it seems the USA has been brow beaten into submission for,the most part. I am NOT a trained and certified microbiologist, however, the last person I ask about any medical treatment, or procedure, is a politician !
a) the CDC approved the *vaxxine* for youths without approved from their 'Expert Board', who had already expressed resistance to increasing dosages for youths,
also, as a result, two notable major administrators of the FDA retired in protest.
Assume that the CDC is already "owned" by Big Pharma and by private donors funding (Gates, Zucker, WEF, globalists, etc., etc,..)
b) To answer 'does anyone care': look to "St. Fauci" who is still making public appearances on TV spreading more 'goal posts'statements and quackery.
Right now, 'snake oil' salesmen have more credibility than the 'Saint', and the CDC.
The GOP are still in the basement bunker looking for their backbone and the RINOs for their cajones and the 'red pills' while they try to get 'it' up.
For a reference, look up the 'Lincoln Project', or the balding Stelzer guy on CNN, who comments while in his shorts.
C) UNCONSTITUTIONAL ? - you can bet your azz that the attempt to include OSHA as a 'work-around' to avoid Congressional vote and oversight is as illegal as they come.
The ignorance expressed about covid and the vaccines by Supreme Court Sotomayor leads one to believe that she gets all her news and current events from CNN, or the cartoon network !
..and she is expected to rule on the 'vaccines' despite demonstrating total ignorance.. is unconscionable !
Someone, please refer her to Telemondo so that she can understand the severity of covid and vaccine situation in her native language !
