ALBANY - The council working on the beginning stages of a plan to dramatically reduce greenhouse gases in the state is looking into how reducing wood smoke could benefit the health of upstate New Yorkers. he 22-member Climate Action Council is in the midst of a year-long study of how to achieve the goals of the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA), an ambitious law passed in 2019 mandating the state reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40 percent when compared to 1990 levels by 2030 and achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
During the October council meeting, New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) Director of Energy and Environmental Analysis Carl Mas made a presentation predicting reducing wood smoke by 40 percent upstate could reduce non-fatal heart attacks, asthma-related hospital visits and deaths significantly.

You WILL buy electricity from the State. Nothing else is permissible.
It well past time to break NY into two (or more) states
That sounds fair.
It penalizes Republicans and whites the most.
I guess they have never seen the black skies with smoke so thick it blots out the noon sun that covers half the state of Nevada every August because of California mismanagement. For one to two months each year we have worse air quality than the dirtiest places in china and that ain’t hyperbofreakinle
Since when did NY care about heart attacks? They push the myocarditis injections.
They really want to freeze people that depend on wood stoves out of their homes.
America is becoming worse then USSR during its most communist years of the Stalin era! America for our children’s sake ,....WAKE THE HELL UP ! Before it’s too late.
Here, how about allowing more natural gas hookups.
You’re welcome.
Yah!
Too many people (presumably white) being comfortable. Can’t have that.
Here in PA, residents can shop for electricity and natural gas suppliers, i.e., let's competition work for the resident buyer. I can tell you first hand - competition works !!
Unfortunately, there are municipalities w/in PA whose residents have no option but to buy their electricity from their municipality. In other words, the municipality becomes a middleman and the municipality gets its cut.
My daughter lives in a town like that, and they don’t hedge their pricing. Last year when there was a huge spike in the spot pricing, their bills went asymptotic.
yeah, no. they have eliminated NG hookups in NYC.
The only competition in NYS is to buy “green” energy or buy into solar farms which resulted in people’s bills skyrocketing even more!
They of course need to stop with the greenhouse gas and climate bs. There are some urban and suburban areas across the state where houses are so densely concentrated, sometimes multifamily dwellings with more than one chimney, it’s absurd to let them all spew smoke. That said, it should be handled with local ordinances.
We have a routine outdoor burning ban from April through almost June here.
