Anyone for a 45-70 in a Winchester 1886 saddle-ring carbine?
I’ve read that the F&G guys in Alaska use 12 gauge shotguns with slugs for grizzlies.>>
Thats excellent. But it requires allowing a grizzly within 100 yeards of your location.
I’d rather drop them a few hundred yards away. But thats just a personal preference.
It actually happened. And the laugh is that when the Story was sent to Buck Knife Company. sayiing he killed a bear bare handed with a 6 inch buck knife, he thought they would at least send him a free one, but all he got was a :”good for you” “Glad you appreciate our product.”
We all had thought that Buck would use the story as an advertisement. But NOPE. They must have a few sleezy politically correct wombats in their advertising and marketing division. Give then creduit though. Their knife did the job.
Alaska bear load: Buckshot, slug, buckshot, slug. Repeat until bear is down and not moving. That’s how they load their 12 ga. in bear country (all Alaska). They say buckshot first to blind the bear and take out his sense of smell. Slugs and more buck to finish him off. I’m a believer.

They both come from among the Turks, and they themselves argue which is the better dog.
Buck knives never impressed me, although I’ll readily acknowledge one was effective here. Personally, I’m partial to these:

My son lives in Japan and when I want a knife I send him the money for one of these. You can gett them in the hardware store for about a hundred bucks there and they are machine forged in Seki Japan, razor sharp, with a hard wood case. They make me the best hunting knives I ever had:
I wish they could be ordered from outside Japan, but the only places you can buy them is inside Japan, they are not exported.
Beautiful piece of work. You’re lucky to have one.

“ The Karelian (Carelian) Bear Dog originated in northwestern Europe, and considered to be a descendant of the Komi dog. These northern dogs were originally used by Russian and Finnish peasants for hunting, herding and as draught dogs and were key to the people’s survival. The breed was nearly destroyed during The Winter War in Karelia.”
Ah, ha. I was confusing that breed with the Kangal.
K... Yeah.
Anyway, Aksaray are thought to be descended from the Kangal, which, itself, is a massive breed with over 700psi bite strength. They’ve been known to take on two wolves at a time.
Amazingly powerful breed
I’d love to house one for a couple of weeks, just so I could walk it twice a day around this neighborhood full of latte sippers with their toaster-sized, yappy, uh, dogs.
😂😂😂
What he is referring to is an old joke thats been around awhile. There are several variations. Here is one of them. Once you read it, you’ll understand his post.
I was hiking with my friend, when suddenly, a really mad brown bear started charging at us...
Maybe her cubs were nearby, I don’t know, but I’ve never seen such a crazed bear before in my life!
Luckily I had my 22 pistol with me.
One shot to my friend’s kneecap was all it took and I could walk away at a comfortable pace.
Perhaps but each of the nine #00 pellets in a standard 12 gauge shell is potentially lethal to the bear if it strikes in the central nervous system. It would be like being hit simultaneously by nine .33 caliber pistols given the velocity the pellets are flying. At close range, that would do a world of hurt on even the largest of bears.
“Or is he a little less dead now?”
It lessened the severity of his death. Which is normal.
