RAND PAUL: I'm quitting YouTube
The Washington Examiner ^ | Jan 3 | Sen. Rand Paul

Posted on 01/03/2022 9:39:28 PM PST by RandFan

Every year, people resolve to do things that are better for their health — quitting alcohol, processed food, toxic relationships. I have come to the realization that my relationship with YouTube is dysfunctional.

Sure, I can get millions of views. But why should I allow anonymous “fact-checkers” to censor my fully sourced, fact-based content? They don’t want to challenge or debate me with opposing views, they just want my silence.

Everyone complains about Big Tech. The Left says Big Tech doesn’t censor enough. The right complains that Big Tech censors too much already.

Many in Congress, on the Left and the Right, want to break up or regulate Big Tech, but few of these loud voices have actually stepped up and quit using Big Tech.

So today, I announce that I will begin an exodus from Big Tech. I will no longer post videos on YouTube unless it is to criticize them or announce that viewers can see my content on rumble.com.

Why begin with YouTube? Because they’re the worst censors.

Any time I state that cloth masks do not stop the virus from spreading, as in this Denmark study, Florida school comparison, and Vietnamese study, YouTube deletes the video. I always cite studies and scientific sources such as those listed here, but instead of allowing free and open debate with others who might argue flaws in those studies or cite opposing ones, YouTube simply silences me........

The Trusted News Initiative. Where government, media, big tech, and big pharma combine to stifle any opinion that doesn’t further their agenda.

I have considered hiring a programmer to write a Windows program that assists conservatives by updating their local 'hosts' file to redirect all YouTube requests to Rumble, all Google requests to conservative searches, etc. That would be a way to help conservatives to wean themselves from Commie Tech. The program would have an on/off option so that the regular sites could also be re-enabled if needed.

I've done this on my own Linux workstation, and been happy with the results.

Very true.

Reason why Rand and people like him can’t abandon all big tech and isn’t completely leaving youtube is because he has to have some way to reach the general population.

These big tech websites have become the town square. Telling people like Rand and businesses to simply stop being part of the problem, it’s so easy, leave, means you don’t understand the problem. Just get off is like telling people not use the newspaper in the 1800s or banning the telephone.

And these websites and personalities that have moved on have not gotten away from big tech either. Getter uses Google aka YouTube, Apple, Twitter. Talk radio hosts get off Twitter but sells on Amazon. Rumble is on Google, Apple and uses Twitter. You have to use Big Tech to be successful. If you’re not successful and just a person in your underwear blogging from your mom’s basement you’re giving money to Google or Apple somewhere too.

If you’re not comply off Big Tech you’re not a failure or contributing to be a second class citizen. It’s going to be a long process.

The so called “Giants” call the shots on those big platforms and everybody knows it. Worse they’ve got basically students determining who gets booted. It’s a hit or miss depending on who’s up to make the cuts.

Anyone who wades into any of them knows it’s a zoo full of wild animals, some in cages roaring and others running around seeking who they can devour. You enter at your own risk.

These big tech websites have become the town square.

This has been part of my argument that these are NOT simply private business decisions but rather may slam quite squarely into the First Amendment. While 1A was aimed at government, all of the amendments can be enforced against private concerns acting in concert with or as agents of government.

AGREE re: modern day town square.

BTW, I use twitter for reasons that I need to as I write a newsletter and it’s still huge traffic wise .

They’re the daddy unfortunately especially as I dont use FB, Insta or Commie TikTok.

I don’t do politics or get into discussions but did create another account just for that.

Also now on GETTR which is a really good platform to be honest.

Really hope it takes off (I think it will)

Don’t forget Gab, which is definitely freer than GETTR (CIA data-mining project).
