Los Angeles County sees another steep rise in COVID hospitalizations as omicron surges
ABC News ^ | 1/2/22

The number of coronavirus patients in Los Angeles County hospitals rose to 1,628 on Saturday -- up from 1,424 on Friday, according to the latest state figures. Of those patients, 246 were in intensive care, up sharply from 218 the previous day.

Friday's daily positivity rate ticked up nearly a full point overnight to 22.4%, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. Last month, the rate was less than 1%.

County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer said she respected plans for the Rose Parade to go on as scheduled on Saturday, despite the large crowds it traditionally gathers. But she said people at high risk for virus transmission or for severe illness if they become infected should avoid attending.

"This might be the year for some people to be watching this on TV,'' she said.

Evidence suggests that only those who have recently completed their vaccination series or are boosted have significant protection from becoming infected with the highly contagious Omicron variant, according to public health officials.

RE: another steep rise in COVID hospitalizations as omicron surges

Can someone describe the word “hospitalization” please!

Are these people really occupying a hospital bed?

Interesting to statistics just released, source KABC TV locally in Los Angeles:

Los Angeles County Health Director Barbara Ferrer said Thursday that unvaccinated people in the county are 14 times more likely to die from COVID-19 than those that have been fully vaccinated.

“Vaccines continue to offer an extraordinary level of protection against hospitalizations and against the worst of all outcomes - passing away,” Ferrer said.

The hospitalization rate for unvaccinated people is 28 per 100,000 residents in LA County, while the rate for the vaccinated has remained relatively flat at 1 per 100,000, she said.

More than 27,000 people have died from COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic.

Of them, 602 were vaccinated. That represents just 0.01% of the 6.3 million people who have been vaccinated in Los Angeles County.

Of those 6.3 million, 127,172 have tested positive for a rate of 2%. By comparison, the county’s overall test positivity rate has passed 20% this week.

There have been 3,094 vaccinated people who have been hospitalized with the virus in total since the vaccine became widely available earlier this year.

County hits 20,000 cases mark

The county’s latest figure of 20,198 new cases overall represents a tripling from last week and the highest number since last winter’s surge before the vaccine was widely available.

The county’s positivity test rate has also skyrocketed to 21% - meaning one out of every five people who get tested are positive for COVID-19.

Exactly.....Can't trust any stats these days.

All this testing....is a setup for the mandate case at the USSC on Jan 7th.

See my Lords and Ladies...So many are sick because they do not obey.

And what do they actually have?

A cold my Lords and Ladies.

And since when do we mandate vaccines, that do not work, for colds, wise Knaves?

Number of new cases may be omicron while hospitalizations and deaths may be leftover delta.

28 per 100,000 hospitalized

Why would someone take an untested medicine for an absolute risk rate like that?

Answer: Mass Psychosis FEAR

This validates the Pfizer Phase 3 trials of 9 per 21,500. NOTHING HAS CHANGED in a year, except now we know much more about the dangers.

22% Test Positivity Rate.

A month ago (before Omicron) it was 1%.

Not long ago, 5%, or 8% were among the triggers to impose restrictions and lockdowns.

Clearly, Governments (around the USA, and around the World) are adopting a “Let’er rip” approach with Omicron, even if they continue to give lip service to the old policies, like masking. No policy is going to stop this spread anyway.

Hospitalization and death rates have hugely decoupled from the old relationship to case numbers. They are much much less that they were before Omicron. Even if there is some marginal growth, it is dwarfed by growth in infections.

Also, at 22%, there is likely now some higher percentage of infections that are going unreported, as testing capacity is not growing anywhere remotely as fast. We won’t have a good idea until after the surge is over, but the likelihood is that it is actually an even bigger wave than it looks.

Omicron is nature’s “vaccine”. We don’t have the Spanish Flu wiping out millions anymore either.
