There will be no popcorn movies in France for a while – at least not in theaters – due to a rapid surge in the Omicron variant.

Beginning Monday, the country will put a three-week halt on the consumption of the popular snack in cinemas in a ban that will apply to all eating and drinking.

I don’t know how the cinema industry works in France, but if it works like it does in the U.S., this is a recipe for putting movie theaters out of business. In this part of the world, theaters basically break even on ticket revenues and all essentially all of the profit is from the snacks.

I go for the popcorn. The movie is simply a treat to supplement the popcorn.

this is a recipe for putting movie theaters out of business.

Hubby and I went to the local theater last month. The entire concession stand was shut down. Not only no popcorn, no ice cream (which they always had), no soda, no coffee drinks, no coffee period. The capper, was some teenaged employees, all sitting on their asses doing nothing, yelling at me (a 67 yo senior) because I didn't have my mask on.

Yeah, it will be a long, long time, if ever, that I return to a movie theater.

Generally, your ticket runs 8 to 10 euro, $9 to $12. Drink and popcorn for 1 person, around equalvent of $10. They’d have raise tickets by 40 percent.

The 99, a New England casual dining chain, was takeout only then outdoor and takeout and finally indoor dining but with plexiglass dividers. Eventually those came down but in some places a mask mandate.
Now communal bowls of popcorn or cheese ajd crackers are ok...

Sign on door in Salem MA now says “CDC advises mask wearing except when eating or drinking”. Note wording. Not a mask mandate but a CDC “advisory”.

Only if you pick it up off the theater floor.

Kung-Flu is smart.

It attacks popcorn and bars open past 10pm.

When it attacks gasoline, all is lost.

I stopped going to Texas Roadhouse because they stopped the free peanuts in the waiting area - due to COVID! What sense does that make!

They used to have a big barrel of peanuts in the waiting area and you could grab handfuls of them and throw the shells to the floor. That was about my favorite part of Texas Roadhouse besides the steaks and the 48 ounce margaritas.
