Interesting point. I've often wondered how far back can one make a legit claim? I think the original victims, yes, of course. But what about families, just those alive at the time?

The question boils down to, stolen from whom?
No group “steals” territory, it is taken by conquest and put under new management. The conquest may be benign, or it may be brutal, but the capability to stake out and hold territory is always going to be challenged by some other entity that believes they have a “divine right”, or who can muster a more aggressive army.
