Tesla Inc (TSLA.O) is recalling over 475,000 Model 3 and Model S electric cars, the U.S. safety regulator said.
For Model 3 sedans, rearview cameras mounted on these units might malfunction, increasing the risk of a crash, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said.

I was thinking the same. Isn’t that kind of like insider trading?
Rearview camera causes a crash??
History has shown us what’s in store for those who hold a brilliance that makes fools of our bureaucrats. Musk is Reardon Metals. He will be regulated to death, starved of raw materials, commodities. His labor force will be infiltrated and sabotaged by informant agents of the feds.
“Rearview camera”
I guess people depend on them too much instead of looking around.
“The main reason Musk is selling is to pay the taxes on the exercise of options that expire next summer. As part of a 2012 compensation package, the Tesla CEO was given options on 22.8 million shares that expire next August.” Dec 14, 2021
Elon will pay about $11 BILLION in Personal Income Tax!
I don’t want to hear anything about “malfunctions” in Teslas. When you hand over the steering wheel to a robot, the dang thing needs to be foolproof.
In my day, we learned to actually turn our heads and look out the rear window before backing up.
A few years ago my then 18-19 year old stepson’s rearview camera stopped working on his truck. He said, “my camera’s broke, how am I supposed to back up?” He was never taught to look where he’s backing...100% trust in the camera.
My 2012 Toyota Tacoma SR5 came with the back up camera as part of the package. I told the salesman: “I don’t want it, it is not worth the $600 extra”.
After having it for almost ten years, I would say it is the best innovation in automobiles since intermittent wipers.
Mine has a cross on the camera that lines of exactly over the tow ball. It makes hooking up a trailer much easier. Pick up trucks also tend to be much easier to back into a parking space than pulling in front first.
I would never buy another truck without a back up camera.
Also, my 83 year old father in law has a tough time turning his head/neck. He NEEDS a back up camera to drive safely.
Big gov abusing an upstart citizen, imagine that.
They were as I understand it, options and he had to sell them.
Rear view camera causes a crash??
Watched a few crashes in parking lots , They use the camera and back into cars on either side of them
That’s what so great about the 2022 tuscons hybrid...they use side cameras and create a virtual 3 d image from the top to the sides that you can see on the dash to judge what is on your sides as well as the main center viewer that shows the back. Almost full proof when backing.
A good safety tip I learned was the constant scan of being a pilot. The rear view mirror, side mirrors, and forward windshield, are all equally important, requiring equally divided attention and focus time. You never fixate on one feedback source. When one is inoperative you use an alternate source for the same information.

Automotive industry considers the cameras to be rated at ASIL-B. The real safety issue is usually a frozen frame as it deceives, requiring active monitoring of frames.
This is a bit odd though considering the claim is the cable could get cut. A black image isn’t usually considered a safety problem as it is obviously wrong.
The only time I don't do that is when I'm in front of a store with plate glass windows.
The reflection in the glass is panoramic, without roof post blind spots and with the ability to see down the sides of my own car!
Damn! I’m in no position to short that stock.
What’s wrong? Does it swerve erratically while getting kids in the backseat to STFU?
