Where did all the workers go? That is a great mystery that continues to be unsolved. All over America, businesses are literally hiring anyone with a pulse and there are “help wanted” signs all over the place. But the number of people that are actually working is still close to four million below the pre-pandemic peak.
What happened to all of those extra workers? They certainly aren’t on unemployment, because claims for unemployment benefits are the lowest that we have seen “in decades”. So where are they? It is almost as if millions upon millions of people have disappeared from the system completely over the past couple of years.
Needless to say, this lack of workers is having a dramatic impact on the delivery of basic services all over the country.
For example, some of the biggest banks in the U.S. are “temporarily” closing lots of branches due to a lack of staff…

I haven’t noticed a thing? Maybe I should quit doing my own sh——stuff.
They don’t want to wear muzzles, get their noses swabbed on a weekly or twice weekly basis, and/or get jabbed with something of questionable benefit.
I can’t see how it’s going to get better.
Could be dead from Covid - or they just dropped out of society altogether.
I’ll be joining them shortly if these mandates are upheld.
Maybe they’re dead.
I think there has been a great psychological impact when
government has classified some people as “non-essential”.
“...businesses are literally hiring anyone with a pulse...”
Oh, puh-leeze. What a load of crap. The only industries or sectors of the economy hiring “anyone with a pulse” are retail and manual labor. There is no shortage of skilled workers unless they had been terminated for refusing the vax.
You cannot replace engineers, trade journeyman, doctors, nurses, LEOs, truck drivers, etc. with unqualified or unskilled workers simply because “they have a heartbeat”.
Again, what a load of crap.
I don’t really see any problems where I am. Maybe it’s more the blue states?
My state isn’t going along with Biden’s shot & mask mandates, though. Some individual companies are, but it’s not widespread.
I cannot easily be replaced.
I am as a god at my workplace.
It also doesn't explore what might going on in the underground economy.
Working from home is also saving people al lot of money so the necessity of both parents having to work is not as great.
Interesting how the party claiming to be “for the workers” is doing everything they can to hinder work and destroy jobs. Health mandates, minwage, unemployment bonuses, zoning restrictions, energy source bans, ... never realizing that “supply and demand” is an absolute economic law, and that “the invisible hand” will always find a way to subvert their allegedly good intentions.

The article did mention this:
“ I specifically warned that a lot of these hospitals in blue states were going to be facing severe personnel shortages as a result of the absurd mandates that were being imposed.
Now these institutions have been put in an untenable situation right in the middle of a raging pandemic, and the ones that instituted the mandates are the ones that are responsible for this state of affairs.”
Burn-out is another major factor in the medical industry.
I’m a ditchdigger and I was considered essential
As my daughter, who works at a liquor store. Essentially, there’d have been riots if those were closed and everyone had to stay home with the brats
My company doesn’t dare. Oh, I know they want to, but they’ve lost a lot of people and are having difficulty finding new employees. These are people like engineers and project managers that you can’t just easily pluck out of the labor force.
