A New York judge has upheld an order preventing The New York Times from publishing documents between conservative group Project Veritas and its lawyer and ruled that the newspaper must immediately relinquish confidential legal memos it obtained.
The decision Thursday by State Supreme Court Justice Charles D. Wood in Westchester County, released Friday, comes in a defamation lawsuit Project Veritas filed against the Times in 2020.
Months after the lawsuit was filed, the newspaper reported that the U.S. Justice Department was investigating Project Veritas in connection with the theft of a diary belonging to Ashley Biden, the president’s daughter. In that story, the Times quoted the memos, leading Project Veritas to accuse the newspaper of violating attorney-client privilege.
Wood upheld his earlier order preventing the Times from further publishing the memos, and also ruled that the newspaper must turn over physical copies of the documents and destroy electronic versions. …

Wow, did NYT and AP twist a logical pretzel there.
Which I am certain they will do, since they’re so big on “the Rule of Law” and all.
My granddaughters know more about computers than he does.
Now Veritas can use this against The NY Times in court
Wood upheld his earlier order preventing the Times from further publishing the memos, and also ruled that the newspaper must turn over physical copies of the documents and destroy electronic versions. …
Yes, "judge" - I TOTALLY destroyed my electronic versions.
And if you don't believe me, just ask me - I'll tell you.
Important people of "a certain age" have "people" for their computer needs. They don't actually understand about the "galvanized go-fasters" of computers and data storage.
You’re missing the bigger point of the order: the Times must turn over all hard copies of the atty-client documents. There is a possibility that those copies will have some identifying marks that can trace it to the original “leaker”. The Times may attempt to reproduce, (forge), copies of the documents to attempt to pass them off as the original, but I doubt that even they would risk destruction of the original documents.
It would be wonderful if it would confirm what we all know - the documents came straight from the corrupt anti-American FBI. The FBI raid on PV was likely done for the express purposes of assisting the NYT in its litigation against PV and as a politically motivated attack against a leading conservative organization. Christopher Wray is just upholding the FBI’s fine traditions of abuse of authority and intimidation of patriotic American citizens.
They will appeal it to the next court in New York which won’t be as friendly.

There was a crime committed here. The electronic copies should be *preserved* not *destroyed* to help identify the origin of the leak to the NYTimes, which is pretty much going to be the corrupt FBI.
The NYT must attest on a sworn affidavit they deleted or destroyed everything.
If it is learned they did not do so, or the info is leaked to another entity, severe criminal penalties can be brought. Also, PV would have grounds to sue the NYT for civil rights violations and damages. I can only assume that the punitive damages amount would destroy the Old Gray Lady for good.
This ruling came from the NY State Supreme Court.
True. But they have two more to go through before the supreme courts.
Let’s hope in their arrogance and distain for laws applying to them they do so.
And the outcome is as you describe!
Yes, and in NY, the Supreme Court is the trial court; Court of Appeals is the state’s highest court. News flash or perhaps already knew that. Yeah, you probably already knew that.
I didn’t, actually. I figured like most states, the State Supreme Court was the highest state court.
I figured federal court was the next step.
A bit snarky this Christmas morning, aren’t we?
It is good of this judge to STOP the New York Slimes, which was COLLABORATING with the FBI to obstruct justice and interfere with the dissemination of truth.
It has to go up to SCOTUS, like everything the leftards try to do which is plainly wrong.
It’ll be encrypted and stored on a floppy or in the Cloud. Nothing is ever lost or destroyed anymore.
