On Thursday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” Chicago Alderman Raymond Lopez (D) said that “we still talk more about COVID than we do gun violence” even though more children have been the victims of gun violence in the city than have died from coronavirus in Illinois.
Lopez said, “We’ve seen more children impacted by gun violence than by COVID, and now, she’s [Mayor Lori Lightfoot (D)] doing the great pivot, the great about-face, and saying now that President Joe Biden is here, she’ll take the help. What about all those thousands of people whose lives have been impacted by gun violence or the lives that were lost last year when she could have had help from the federal government? Won’t talk about it, won’t apologize for it, and just wishes to sweep it under the rug as though it never happened.”
Host Jessee Watters then asked, “Are you saying more children in Chicago have died from bullets than have died from COVID-19?”
Lopez answered, “More children have been victimized by gun violence in the city of Chicago than have been killed by COVID in the entire state of Illinois in the last year. And yet we still talk more about COVID than we do gun violence.”

Yes, you do. That is because people who join and vote for the democrat taliban party are evil.
gun violence and dying from guns, no mention of the skells behind them
Good article. This is the real problem with Covid. It is real, and we should all do the easy things to avoid it (wear a mask! get vaccinated!)
But beyond that it is a huge distraction from other issues.
Then quit letting the killers out of prison.
Define “children” and separate out the innocent from gang members. I have no sympathy for a nineteen year old “child” killed trying to extend his drug territory.
Maybe they should mandate bulletproof vests in Chiraq. I get an advertising popup in Instagram about bulletproof hoodies.
There could be Nuremberg II trials for forcing experimental medications on those unwilling or tricked into taking them. I just hope there is enough rope.
Why can’t they call it ‘criminal violence’ rather than ‘gun violence’? Easier to blame an inanimate object than evil humans (who vote).
Then too, there's this: he was shot
One issue is about the political advantage and control that democrats believe they have. The other is an issue they don’t care about, since those being murdered are blacks.
Dear Chicago Alderman Raymond Lopez (D;
Chicago has a GANG VIOLENCE problem and not a gun violence problem. It Chicago would properly support its police, insist that prosecutors get gang members locked behind bars (as opposed to plea bargain wrist slaps), make sure judges that are tough on gang violence are on the bench, then Chicago will resolve its “violence” problem.
One's a much easier "fix" to look like you're accomplishing something, no REAL work required...
I crunched the numbers a while back and more black males under 25 have been shot in Chicago than black males under 25 in the entire US had been in ICU/died from COVID, since the start of the pandemic.
It is no wonder black males have the lowest vaccination rates.
There is no good reason that you can't reuse a nylon rope. Be green! Recycle!
Gun control doesn’t win elections (which is all the Democrat/Communist/Left Party cares about); fear of the Fauci Flu and the resulting vote-by-mail scheme does (alhtough the Democrat/Communist/Left Party will soon be pushing for vote-by-text because, y’know, “better safe than sorry”)
“I’ve seen him before and he seems reasonable on some things. Hou about a vax against gun violence. It would work about as good at the CONvid vax.”
If he plays his cards right, he will be the next mayor of Chicago, and I wish him luck.
Impossible? Not really.
But it will be a difficult and ugly job to even get the ship floating again, never mind, in the right direction.
Mr. Lopez would be a huge improvement for Chicago despite his democrat card. He at least understands law and order and is vocal about it.
The problem is, there is no such thing as gun violence. There are humans who engage in violence that involves guns, but the guns themselves can’t do a thing.
