Property owners and businesses in York are being encouraged to display new signs to help slow the spread of COVID-19.
Dr. Matthew Howie, with the city health bureau, said the signs are a way to remind people of the importance of masks and social distancing. The new graphics can be downloaded from a city website and printed.
"Historically, businesses have been very open to this sort of messaging," he said.
There are five messages, including one that says, "Masks still help."
Another says, "Spread kindness, not COVID-19. "
"This is one of the challenging messages to get out there because of the way that we have politicized so much of this infection. It's hard to remind people that kindness is part of this process," Howie said.
City officials said we need to be doing all we can to protect our neighbors, especially those who are more vulnerable.
"There's a lot of virus in our community. These are the things that we have to do," Howie said.
