The jurors have found Kim Potter, the former Brooklyn Center police officer who shot and killed Daunte Wright, guilty on counts of both first- and second-degree manslaughter.
The jury had deliberated for approximately 28 hours Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Late Tuesday, they asked Judge Regina Chu what they should do if they could not arrive at a verdict. Speaking with the jurors, Chu told them they needed to continue with deliberations with open minds and a willingness to listen to each other’s viewpoints.

Supposedly this officer had been flying a desk for several years and had been put back into uniform due to a shortage of patrol staff. No refresher training.
Again - and I’ve said this previously - the officer is not wholly responsible for this incident. This was a department failure, this was a training failure, this was a leadership failure - but it was also an officer failure because there’s objective evidence on the video that she did not take it on herself to practice with her main weapon and probably did even less practice with the Taser.
This is metro Minneapolis. She was judged by a jury of her peers. Speaks for itself. The Gov will do nothing......
The one who was being dragged by the car?
Still not discussing if she was a poorly trained cop, or poor at following safety protocols, or poor at practicing with police equipment, or poor at keeping in proper physical shape.
All those deficiencies can and should be addressed by Department Disciplinary Procedures, not by a criminal Court of Law.
Thing is, he wasn’t being dragged by the car until *after* she’d pulled her pistol. The car wasn’t going anywhere at the time.
So you were there!
Well that’s different!
Why didn’t you say so?
The movie was based on that incident in Oakland...The officer worked for BART...Bay Area Rapid Transit agency...
Light sentence...I agree...Less than 5 years...
I am not surprised that the jury found her guilty...I think that Ms. Potter needs to serve some jail time...Not guilty verdict would have been wrong in this case...In my opinion...
Um, no, you can see it in the video.
I would say 18-36 months would be appropriate, IMHO.
There's no way in hell I would ever be a cop in America today.
The Left hates cops? Let them enjoy the vigilante street justice that's coming right around the corner because this is exactly where we're headed.
Welcome to Central America.
And she was unsuited for police work.

"Burris later increased the amount sought by Grant's family to $50 million. The civil case was partially resolved when BART settled with Grant's daughter for $1.5 million (with accrued interest), according to Burris' law firm.[181] BART paid a $1.3 million settlement to Grant's mother. The five friends of Grant settled with BART and received a total of $175,000.[182]"
I wonder how much Wright's family would get...Oscar Grant's family did not get a hugh settlement...In my opinion, $1.5 million is not a hugh amount...

she was white and the criminal was black
One person doing something bad does not excuse another person for doing something bad. If Alec doesn't get a prison sentence, the problem is with that court system.
“If Alec doesn’t get a prison sentence, the problem is with that court system.”
He has to first be charged, and then indicted before the court system even comes into play. And he will not be charged, and he won’t be indicted, so he has no worry about a prison sentence.
Even so, the fact that one miscreant gets away with something because of a rigged system does not excuse other people getting away with something.
Bad is objectively bad.
The DA then. (Which I regard as part of the court system.) “
Now you’re putting the cart before the horse. Your original comment was: “If Alec doesn’t get a prison sentence, the problem is with that court system.” The operative term here is “prison sentence,” which necessitates a court rendering judgment. The DA and defense counsel are “officers of the court,” but they play no part in passing sentence (and impact statements — if allowed — are only to affect the harshness or leniency of a sentence, but a sentence the convicted will get). But, the judge and jury are responsible for sentencing.
But I agree with you that just because one person skates should not mean other persons committing a similar crime should skate, but that’s a political act more than a legal one.
I hope she appeals.
According to what I’ve read she would have been JUSTIFIED using her gun too, because the criminal was attempting to drive away with an officer hanging out the side of the car.
That has been viewed as attempted homicide of a police officer in the past.
So how can they convict her of the ‘crime’ of using a gun instead of her taser, when the gun would have been justified too.
