The Russian leader welcomed talks with the U.S. that are set to start in Geneva next month as a “positive” move, but warned that Moscow expects the discussion to produce quick results.
Russian President Vladimir Putin urged the West on Thursday to “immediately” meet Russia’s demand for security guarantees precluding NATO’s expansion to Ukraine, saying the U.S. is “on the threshold of our home.”
Speaking during a marathon annual news conference, the Russian leader welcomed talks with the U.S. that are set to start in Geneva next month as a “positive” move, but warned that Moscow expects the discussion to produce quick results.
“We have clearly and precisely let them know that any further NATO expansion eastward is unacceptable,” Putin said.

Last week, Moscow submitted draft security documents demanding that NATO deny membership to Ukraine and other former Soviet countries and roll back the alliance’s military deployments in Central and Eastern Europe. A key principle of the alliance is that membership is open to any qualifying country.
“Is it us who are putting missiles near the U.S. borders?” Putin said angrily. “No, it’s the U.S. who came to our home with its missiles, they are already on the threshold of our home. Is it some excessive demand not to place any strike weapons systems near our home?”

With our presence now gone from Afghanistan, and China taking over complete control using all of our former airbases and other installations, and with their presence and influence growing in the Mideast and Africa; I suspect China is feeling emboldened and work to diminish Russian influence throughout.
I agree with you and I think that Russia, NATO and the US may well will be pardners, allies, within ten years.
This is posturing by Putin so that he can justify an attack on the Ukraine. He knows perfectly well that NATO will not invite the Ukraine to join. He also knows that NATO can not state this outright, uncertainty is key to deterrence.
Putin needs to generate a threat to Russia, the country is stagnating and the oligarchy he sits atop is bleeding Russia dry. Defeating a “foreign threat” and reclaiming parts of Ukraine for Russia will boost his prestige inside Russia, and help neuter his opponents.
Putin is correct when he says that Eastern Ukraine is Russian. The people speak Russian, not Ukrainian, and identify as Russian.
The European content was the bloodiest in world history. The only peace was from 1945-1990. Thank the US. Do we owe it to them to stop it for happening again? You tell me because they’re collectively unaware of the Muslim/Chicom motives.
It sounds like Putin is giving an ultimatum to the US and NATO. This means he isn’t bluffing. He will move on Ukraine in 2022. The way I see it is: (so my Ouija Board Says) 1. Act of terrorism done by “Ukrainian Nazis.” 2. Gas shuts off from Russia to Ukraine. 3. Power grid in Ukraine knocked out by EMF Pulse. 4. News blackout over all the area as tanks roll in to Novo Russia. 5. Ukrainian Army folds up. 6. Government flees to Poland. as a Pro-Russian Government put in until free elections can be held (if ever). 7. Putin will give a Victory Parade and a party in Moscow. 8. Biden will go to UN and give a speech and place sanctions of Russia as China scoops up Taiwan.
Putin’s plan sounds like it will work, and he won’t even have to pay The Big Guy 10%.
That’s gotta be pretty damn close to the plan.
“Generals and Majors always seem so unhappy unless they got a war.”
Everyone except enlisted and Lieutenants. It’s how they get significant promotions. And board seats or fat consulting contracts at Ratheon (etc) when they leave.
“Putin is correct when he says that Eastern Ukraine is Russian. The people speak Russian, not Ukrainian, and identify as Russian.”
Well, that is the crux of the matter. But the majority of those ethnic Russians are actually more Pro-West than they are pro-Russia. The problem is that the Russian-centric Putin fully embraces the idea that it is Russia’s duty to come to the aid of ANY ethnic Russian, no matter where on the planet they may be, and whether or not they even want to be “rescued.”
Someone said that Russia is paranoid, but that has always been the case. A paranoid bully is very dangerous.
The only Ukrainian province with a majority of Russian speakers is Crimea.
EVERY Ukrainian province except Galicia is Russian-speaking. The fact that people in Kiev have opted to speak surjik, which is a Spanglish sort of mix, for fear of reprisals doesn’t make them Ukrainian-speaking.
Putin is going in.....period.
If Putin just accepted a NATO bases in Moscow there would be no need to put them in Ukraine. He’s being very unreasonable!
LOL, okay thanks for the paranoid Russian view.
Putin will go in because Brandon and the Transvestite Joint Chiefs will no nada.
When have you been to Ukraine last time? I guess never.
Cancel wait to see how this plays out. Either way it won’t be pretty.
Someone needs to explain to ol’ Vlad that china is a much greater threat to Mother Russia than what NATO will ever be.
