I am going to guess that this is an Oil Refinery.

If memory serves there is a chemical side there as well.
Subject to verification. I'll check.

This is at the gasoline refinery side. Gasoline futures went up about a nickle already.

Note that there is a strike continuing at a Beaumont ExxonMobil, about 100 miles east.

Exxon should immediately and with no notice cease sales and deliveries to California.

California is the root of progressive evil and serves as a powerful example of death to progressive society when mortally wounded by an absence of gasoline

Here you go...ExxonMobil Baytown Refinery
oil refinery, chemical plant, olefins plant
ExxonMobil’s Baytown refinery complex in Texas is one of the biggest integrated refinery and petrochemical facilities in the US. The refinery is capable of processing approximately 560,500 barrels of crude oil a day (bpd).

The Exxon Mobil complex in Baytown was founded in 1919 and sits on approximately 3,400 acres along the Houston Ship Channel, according to its website.

It is the second-largest refinery in the United States with nearly 2,200 employees. The facility produces nearly 600,000 barrels of crude oil a day.

From the Baytown Sun:

No shelter-in-place was ordered and the fire department statement said Baytown fire units were not called for assistance. ExxonMobil, like most similar facilities, has an in-house fire department but may call on the city's department when additional resources are needed.

All refineries have a very good in-house fire dept and EMT service. Has really cut down on injuries at such a difficult job.

My old friend Ed - many years ago - worked construction at a oil refinery
in Philadelphia, right on the Delaware river.

Once, after days of torrential rains, the refinery flooded up to your knees.

Oil - and gasoline - FLOATS. There was a fellow construction worker
driving a pickup truck through the gasoline-covered flood waters.

Ed was screaming:

"TURN OFF THE ENGINE! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, TURN OFF HE ENGINE!

The guy DID - he and Ed were NOT blown to bits in a horrific explosion,
and Ed is still with us. Ed then quit the construction work, and started
a business were there is a very very low probability of him getting blown up.

Another set of adjacent refinery/chemical plant. (currently under expansion)
On strike now...refinery side.

Thank you

Not minimizing the human toll of this.

God have mercy on those killed by this accident.

But, depending on the damage we could be looking at higher gasoline prices.

Nah! There are enough refineries close by (Deer Park/Pasadena for example) that it should only be a minor problem.
The other refineries may crank up their production to cover and get more sells from the ExxonMobil production drop.

I saw a KCS train loaded with nothing but brand new oil cars. Wonder if they were heading for this refinery.

With BIDEN shutting down the Keystone Pipeline there has been a great increase of oil transport by rail all going South.

A (true story) song about this guys dad. I remember hearing kids at school coming in and announcing that their dad or brother had been injured or killed in a refinery accident. This song still brings me chills.

Also note that XOM recently noted their annual raises would be under COL. Also, gas inventories were up by last count, time to cull the overage.

I would not rule out some kind of employee sabotage.
