Great idea. When Truman left the WH, he took a train back to MO, had no security detail, and lived simply for the rest of his life.

Yeah I read a US Grant biography, after lunch in the WH he would go for an afternoon walk by himself around DC smoking a cigar.

My dad was working one night on the Santa Fe railroad. He was sitting in the train depot in Marceline Missouri, waiting for a train to come in, take it the other direction after a repair.

Met Harry Truman in that depot, late at night waiting for a train. Just him and one other guy going with him somewhere.

Truman, the last decent Democrat President. I don't know the circumstances, but my mother once wrote a speech for him on some special topic. He asked what he could do for her. She asked for two autographed copies of his book, Mr. President (one addressed to me and one for my brother). I still have mine.
