Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is urging Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.), a close ally and his No. 2, to run for reelection next year as Thune weighs retiring.
Asked on Wednesday about the possibility that Thune retires, McConnell told conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt that "I certainly hope he won't."
"John Thune is an outstanding senator. He's done a great job as whip. ...It would be a real setback from the country and our party if he retires," McConnell added.

Thune will go with the highest bidder.
Turtles of a feather flock together. South Dakota has sent some fairly useless Republicans to the U.S. Senate. Larry Pressler was one of them. It is arguable if Thune is any better.
McConnell wants EVERY incumbent to run again.
That’s how we get 88 year old Grassley to run again.
That’s how we get sick Johnny Isaacson to run again, so he can then resign and we get Loser Loeffler.
That’s how we get elderly and infirm Thad Cochran to run again, to prevent a REAL conservative from being elected in Mississippi.
That’s how we get Lisa Murkowski to run as an independent against the REPUBLICAN nominee, to keep her in the Senate.
Etc.
Assistant Democrats prefer Democrats over Republicans!
Who knew?
Murder Turtle is trying to keep the band together.
McConnell needs someone to run for Senate leader that is in the corrupt mold as he is. He needs an inside man.
Thunder is a poster child for that.
There, Mitch. Fixed your quote for you.
Yep, they are cronies, not crooners.
We will not get new leadership by re-electing Assistant Democrats.
Complete list of the GOP Senators up in 2022:
Roy Blunt (Missouri) Has announced he will retire at end of term.
John Boozman (Arkansas)
Richard Burr (North Carolina) Has announced he will retire at end of term.
Mike Crapo (Idaho)
Chuck Grassley (Iowa)
John Hoeven (North Dakota)
Ron Johnson (Wisconsin)
John Kennedy (Louisiana)
James Lankford (Oklahoma)
Mike Lee (Utah)
Jerry Moran (Kansas)
Lisa Murkowski (Alaska)
Rand Paul (Kentucky)
Rob Portman (Ohio) Has announced he will retire at end of term.
Marco Rubio (Florida)
Tim Scott (South Carolina)
Richard Shelby (Alabama) Has announced he will retire at end of term.
John Thune (South Dakota)
Patrick Toomey (Pennsylvania) Has announced he will retire at end of term.
Todd Young (Indiana)
Toomey, Burr, Blunt, Portman and Shelby are leaving, which helps, but there are a lot of them to primary.
Rubio and Hoeven are Amnesty Senators. They have voted for a permanent Democrat majority, can’t get any more Assistant Democrat than that.
The only ones worthy of re-election are Johnson, Paul and Kennedy.
The rest are Assistant Democrats.
Hugh Hewitt is a Bush League Republican propagandists, he is not nor has he ever been a conservative.
Assistant Democrats prefer Democrats over Republicans!
Who knew?

Everyone who watched them elect Democrat Doug Jones in Alabama.
China Mitch has been grooming Thune for years to be his replacement. This is all kabuki.
A ploy to inflate Thune’s value to the lobbying firm who hires him next.
I’m surprised Hugh still has an audience. Who wants to listen to his brand of political advocacy?
Quite a few freepers admit listening to him, probably the same ones who still think Bush League Republicans are conservatives.
Mitch is losing all his desperate RINO buddies.
Turt wants his little band of Never Trumping RINOs in the Senate. Turt is in for a surprise.
