Joe Manchin Is A Hero
American Thinker.com ^ | December 22, 2021 | Glenn Spitzer

Joe Manchin is a hero for holding the line and killing Build Back Better. He cited two reasons—debt and inflation—to which all of us replied: well, duh. But in today’s Democrat party, fiscal responsibility is rare and fleeting. So, we should take a moment and sing the praises of this extraordinary accomplishment in the hopes we can inspire more.

Let’s start with the cost. It is often said that nothing is more permanent than a temporary government program. We’ve all been around the block; we know the game: give the public a taste of the government’s bountiful benefits and then vote later—from terra firma—on a bill to maintain the status quo. This is why it is far more reasonable to assume the permanence of the benefits and to estimate the cost of the bill at $4.73 trillion rather than the $1.7 trillion figure so casually thrown around in the media. The Congressional Budget Office concluded the added costs of making the temporary policies permanent “would increase the deficit by $3.0 trillion over the 2022-2031 period” above the temporary costs.

While Joe Biden shamelessly tried to convince his base that these new entitlements would actually help inflation, the rational Democrat senators prayed behind the scenes that Manchin would stay strong so they could remain silent and not have to acknowledge publicly that the emperor has no clothes. We now see how the President and other progressive Democrats have their daggers out for Manchin, which likely only confirms for any opposing Democrats that they were right to keep their mouths shut. And that is why Joe Manchin is a hero. He knew the daggers were coming and he did it anyway. And to better understand exactly how heroic this was, let’s break it down:

Joe Manchin will vote for some form of the Build Back Better plan before the end of February. Will he be a hero then?

In theory, the Democrats could add $3 trillion in additional taxes and overcome Senator Manchin’s objections.

He’s anything but a hero which is also a word used about as much as racist.

Let’s see if he actually holds the line against BBB and hopefully HR-1 or whatever the BS election bill is.

Let’s also hope no RINOs cave.

That happens he’ll get a thanks, nothing more.

Manchin sure as hell was not among them.

Secret Service: Nearly $100B tax dollars stolen in Biden COVID-19 pandemic relief funds
Biden’s showering $$$$ on those who lost their jobs caused massive labor shortages

Nearly $100 billion at minimum has been stolen from Biden’s COVID-19 relief programs set up to help businesses and people who lost their jobs due to the pandemic, the U.S. Secret Service said Tuesday.

The estimate is based on Secret Service cases and data from Biden’s Labor Department and the Small Business Administration, said Roy Dotson, the agency’s national pandemic fraud recovery coordinator, in an interview. The Secret Service didn’t include Biden’s COVID-19 fraud cases prosecuted by the Justice Department....

Most of that figure comes from unemployment fraud. Biden’s Labor Department reported about $87 billion in unemployment benefits could have been paid improperly, with a significant portion attributable to fraud....

From Wikipedia:

Joseph Manchin III (born August 24, 1947) is an American politician and businessman serving as the senior United States senator from West Virginia, a seat he has held since 2010. A member of the Democratic Party, he was the 34th governor of West Virginia from 2005 to 2010 and the 27th secretary of state of West Virginia from 2001 to 2005.

Manchin has called himself a “centrist, moderate conservative Democrat” and is often cited as the most conservative Democrat in the Senate. West Virginia has become one of the most heavily Republican states in the country, but Manchin has continued to see electoral success. He won the 2004 gubernatorial election by a large margin and was reelected by an even larger margin in 2008; in both years, Republican presidential candidates won West Virginia. Manchin won the 2010 special election to fill the Senate seat vacated by incumbent Democrat Robert Byrd’s death with 54% of the vote. He was elected to a full term in 2012 with 61% of the vote and reelected in 2018 with just under 50% of the vote, as the state had become increasingly partisan. He became the state’s senior U.S. senator when Jay Rockefeller retired in 2015.

Manchin was born in 1947 in Farmington, West Virginia, a small coal mining town, the second of five children of Mary O. (née Gouzd) and John Manchin.

The name “Manchin” was derived from the Italian name “Mancini”.

Manchin’s father owned a carpet and furniture store, and his grandfather, Joseph Manchin, owned a grocery store. His father and his grandfather both served as Farmington’s mayor. His uncle A.J. Manchin was a member of the West Virginia House of Delegates and later the West Virginia Secretary of State and Treasurer.

Manchin graduated from Farmington High School in 1965. He entered West Virginia University on a football scholarship in 1965, but an injury during practice ended his football career. Manchin graduated in 1970 with a degree in business administration and went to work for his family’s business.

Manchin founded the coal brokerage Enersystems in 1988, and helped run it until he became a full-time politician. When he was elected West Virginia secretary of state in 2000, he gave control of Enersystems to his son Joseph. In Manchin’s financial disclosure for 2020, he reported that his non-public shares of Enersystems were worth between $1 million and $5 million and that between 2011 and 2020 he was paid $5,211,154 in dividend income from them.

AA Property is reportedly 50% controlled by Manchin, and has, among other things, been an investor in Emerald Coast Realty, which owns a La Quinta hotel in Elkview, West Virginia.

[back in March]
In response to a leaked story that the Biden administration would pursue a $3 trillion infrastructure package, Manchin appeared to support the spending, calling for an “enormous” infrastructure bill. He also expressed openness to paying for the bill by raising taxes on corporations and wealthy people, despite the fact that this would likely eliminate any possible bipartisan support.

Manchin ia an actor as are all politicians at that level. Did you ever contemplate that he is the designated sane politician in the Dem Party? The Dems shake down zillions of dollars from special interests and the Repubs shake down more zillions trying to fight the so-called Trillion Dollar Infrastructure Bill. It is a way to raise funds.

The mafia comes to your door and says they need a contribution as insurance to keep you safe (or they may burn your house or business down). What’s the difference? And Manchin may parlay this into a presidential run and if he becomes president he may change colors because he will be in a different role.

President Biden Announces American Rescue Plan
JANUARY 20, 2021

LEGISLATION
Emergency Legislative Package to Fund Vaccinations, Provide Immediate, Direct Relief to Families Bearing the Brunt of the COVID-19 Crisis, and Support Struggling Communities

The COVID-19 pandemic and the corresponding economic crisis are devastating families across the country. More than 20 million Americans have contracted COVID-19, and at least 370,000 have died. From big cities to small towns, too many Americans are barely scraping by, or not scraping by at all. And the pandemic has shined a light on the persistence of racial injustice in our healthcare system and our economy. The need to act is clear in the lines at food banks, the small businesses that are closed or closing, and the growing number of Americans experiencing housing insecurity. After nearly a year of the public health crisis, our nation remains in this dark winter of the pandemic and facing a deep economic crisis.

President Biden is laying out the first step of an aggressive, two-step plan for rescue, from the depths of this crisis, and recovery, by investing in America, creating millions of additional good-paying jobs, combatting the climate crisis, advancing racial equity, and building back better than before.

While Congress’s bipartisan action in December was a step in the right direction, it was only a down payment. It fell far short of the resources needed to tackle the immediate crisis. We are in a race against time, and absent additional government assistance, the economic and public health crises could worsen in the months ahead; schools will not be able to safely reopen; and vaccinations will remain far too slow.

As last month’s jobs report underscored, the virus and our economy are intertwined. We cannot rescue our economy without containing this virus.

Today, President Biden is announcing the American Rescue Plan to change the course of the pandemic, build a bridge towards economic recovery, and invest in racial justice. The American Rescue Plan will address the stark, intergenerational inequities that have worsened in the wake of COVID-19. Researchers at Columbia University estimate that these proposals will cut child poverty in half.

I can't help but think that this entire thing is being orchestrated by the democrats to have Manchin eventually vote for a smaller package, just to make it look bi-partisan.

It doesn't pass the smell test for me. I am no doubt happy that this was stopped in the meantime, but I don't trust Manchin.

That Joe M. spent lots of time talking with Joe B. indicates Joe. M. is not fundamentally exposed to federal government program expansion.

Joe M. is firmly opposed to wrecking the buying power of his voters.

I have seen comments that there’s closet opposition to the bill among the Dems other than Manchin. Such as Jon Tester, Montana. Montana is a big coal producing state as well as cattle ranching. Wondering why Fat Fella doesn’t man up and openly join Manchin…..

How will the American Rescue Plan Help You?
Learn about the Plan
Specifically, President Biden’s American Rescue Plan will:

Cont

In addition, the president wants to work with Congress to make sure that restaurants, bars, and other businesses that have suffered disproportionately have sufficient support to bridge to the recovery, including through the Community Credit Corporation at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

Provide support for first responders and other essential workers. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, first responders, frontline public health workers, and countless other essential workers have risked their lives to keep our communities safe and functioning. Educators have worked tirelessly to keep our children learning and growing, coming up with new ways to reach and engage their students, often while balancing caring for their own children. Without these front line workers, we will not be able to effectively respond to the pandemic, administer the vaccine, or safely reopen our schools. President Biden is calling on Congress to provide $350 billion in emergency funding for state, local, and territorial governments to ensure that they are in a position to keep front line public workers on the job and paid, while also effectively distributing the vaccine, scaling testing, reopening schools, and maintaining other vital services. The president is also calling on Congress to allocate $3 billion of this funding to the Economic Development Administration (EDA).

Grants from EDA provide resources directly to state and local government entities, tribal institutions, institutions of higher education, and non-profits to fund initiatives that support bottom’s up economic development and enable good-paying jobs. This funding – double the amount provided by the CARES Act – will support communities nationwide with a broad range of financial needs as they respond to and recover from COVID-19.

Protect the future of public transit. Safe and dependable public transit systems are critical for a robust and equitable economy recovery. The president is calling for $20 billion in relief for the hardest hit public transit agencies. This relief will keep agencies from laying off transit workers and cutting the routes that essential workers rely on every day while making these transit systems more resilient and ensuring that communities of color maintain the access to opportunity that public transportation provides.

Support Tribal governments’ response to COVID-19. COVID-19 has exacted an especially high toll in Indian Country. People living on reservations are four times more likely to have COVID-19 and American Indian and Alaska Natives are nearly twice as likely to die from COVID-19 than white Americans.

While the December down payment had many beneficial provisions, it included little direct funding to help Tribal governments respond to COVID-19. President Biden is calling on Congress to give Tribes the resources they need to obtain sufficient personal protective equipment, increase access to clean water and electricity, and expand internet access so that children can learn remotely and more families can obtain basic health care through telemedicine.

President Biden’s plan would invest $20 billion in Indian Country to support Tribal governments’ response to the pandemic. These resources will help to reduce stark and persistent inequities in COVID-19 transmission, hospitalization, and death, while improving economic conditions and opportunity.

Modernize federal information technology to protect against future cyber attacks.

In addition to the COVID-19 crisis, we also face a crisis when it comes to the nation’s cybersecurity. The recent cybersecurity breaches of federal government data systems underscore the importance and urgency of strengthening U.S. cybersecurity capabilities.

President Biden is calling on Congress to launch the most ambitious effort ever to modernize and secure federal IT and networks. To remediate the SolarWinds breach and boost U.S. defenses, including of the COVID-19 vaccine process, President Biden is calling on Congress to:

Expand and improve the Technology Modernization Fund. A $9 billion investment will help the U.S. launch major new IT and cybersecurity shared services at the Cyber Security and Information Security Agency (CISA) and the General Services Administration and complete modernization projects at federal agencies.

In addition, the president is calling on Congress to change the fund’s reimbursement structure in order to fund more innovative and impactful projects.

Surge cybersecurity technology and engineering expert hiring. Providing the Information Technology Oversight and Reform fund with $200 million will allow for the rapid hiring of hundreds of experts to support the federal Chief Information Security Officer and U.S. Digital Service.
Build shared, secure services to drive transformational projects.

Investing $300 million in no-year funding for Technology Transformation Services in the General Services Administration will drive secure IT projects forward without the need of reimbursement from agencies.

Improving security monitoring and incident response activities. An additional $690M for CISA will bolster cybersecurity across federal civilian networks, and support the piloting of new shared security and cloud computing services.

“More Conservative Inc. nonsense from Townhell. Mancin is a Democrat, not a hero, and he will cave in app. one month.”

Maybe, maybe not. He hasn’t caved on anything major in 12 months now, and as much as the Left wanted (or wants) this boondoggle, what they REALLY WANT are the courts and the end of the filibuster, and Manchin is still holding against that also.

As to not being a hero, the stuff he has to deal with on a personal level if FAR WORSE than anything our GOP ‘mavericks’ ever have to deal with. We see Betty Middler making fun of WV and a few 4-letter words, his staff (and probably him) see specific, targeted, death threats non-stop.

For now, he’s a hero. If he ‘caves’, we’ll have to see just how much he’s caving. He does have a price that the Dems could choose to meet (just to get us to blow up at our leaders, yet again), and that would not be ‘caving’ by him, since he’s had that price from the start. Instead it would be caving by the rest of his party because of him.
