The initial handling of allegations by actor Jussie Smollett who staged a fake attack in Chicago was a “major failure” by the local prosecutor’s office, according to a damning investigative report released Monday.
The 60-page report by special prosecutor Dan Webb, who was appointed to review the case, detailed several instances when Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx and others in her office made false statements in 2019 when they first prosecuted Smollett and then abruptly dropped the charges weeks later.
Foxx lied about having cut off contact with Smollett’s younger sister, Jurnee Smollett, after learning the actor had become a suspect in the police investigation, the report found.
The local prosecutor exchanged 17 text messages and five phone calls with Smollett’s sister five days after declaring publicly in February 2019 that she had stopped speaking to her, according to the report.
Prosecutors then ended up dismissing a 16-count indictment against the actor in March 2019 after he agreed to forfeit a $10,000 bond and complete 16 hours of community service.
Foxx had recused herself from the case before it was dropped, but as public outcry intensified over the decision, Webb took over the case — and Smollett was indicted on new charges.
The actor was ultimately found guilty on Dec. 9 of five of six counts of felony disorderly conduct for filing a police report after he told investigators that Trump-loving bigots beat him up and tied a noose around his neck in a January 2019 attack.

“A prosecutor’s discretion is as broad as any in the law, and differences of opinion as to how a case was handled do not signify an abuse of discretion,” the statement said.
Lots of unethical stuff, but nothing illegal, so I guess no charges. I hope the report is widely reported, so she is, at least, questioned and humbled publicly.
“humbled publicly”
Yeah...Good lwith that that
Mishandled?.........................
LOL. Sounds like promotion time to the biden regime to me.
Lawyers and ethics.
They need to complete so many hours of ethics training annually, like all folks that hold a state license.
Fat lot of good that it does to protect the public.
I am so shocked
she didn’t “mishandle” it, she did what she was paid by Soros to do.
Why does she still have a law license?
Black. Female. Communist.
It was handled exactly as she was instructed to, as a favor called in by Moochele O.
The same Moochele O. who lost her law license. Foxx did what she was told.
Everyone needs to remember that our laws are WEAK. That’s why a number of people from Jim Comey and John Brennan on down are not in federal prison. Why are they weak? Well, who enacts laws? What possible reason could Congress have for making federal laws that control and punish the misdeeds of governmental officials weak?
“It’s a rigged system folks”...
I’m not following this article. Are they saying Fox should not have prosecuted Jusse Smollette? Or are e they saying Fox should have gotten a more severe punishment?
I hoped for more, too, from what Webb had said during the Smollett trial. But Jussie is rightfully convicted now, so that should tell everyone what Foxx is really all about, and it ain’t pretty.
She had huge pressure from Michelle Obama and other colored leaders
That’s the incompetence you get with Affirmative Action hires. (Read: racist hiring)
Where have I read this sort of thing before...”Mistakes were made”...by nameless people doing apparently incomprehensible and unknowable things.
There were NO mistakes made, until they lost control of the situation.
“Everyone needs to remember that our laws are WEAK.”
They are NOT weak.
The enforcement and prosecution of them is selective, capricious and largely politically/socially motivated at this point.
The collective WE are weak for having elected and tolerated these people.
So what? She’s going to lose her law license? Not one of these leftwing frauds ever faces consequences.
The govt investigates itself and discovers that no laws were broken.
She was a willing advocate for a movement , or should I say a narrative ,instead of a prosecutor looking for facts and the punishment of criminal offenses that actually occurred. There was no mishandling. It was handled exactly as she wanted. She simply couldnt escape the fakeness of this particular FakeNews™️
