The White House accused Joe Manchin on Sunday for breaking his word after the Democrat publicly said he is a 'no' on President Joe Biden's Build Back Better initiative following months of negotiations over the social spending legislation.
'Senator Manchin promised to continue conversations in the days ahead, and to work with us to reach that common ground,' White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said in a statement on his latest comments.
'If his comments on Fox and written statement indicate an end to that effort, they represent a sudden and inexplicable reversal in his position,' she added, 'and a breach of his commitments to the President and the Senator's colleagues in the House and Senate.'

Less than 30 minutes before Manchin killed BBB, one of his aides was told to give the White House and congressional leadership a heads up, according to Politico.
At the time, Manchin was preparing to go live for an interview with Fox News' Bret Baier, who was hosting his first Fox News Sunday episode after Chris Wallace announced his departure last Sunday.
The mood at the White House following news from Manchin's office was described by Politico as 'panic and disbelief'.
'We tried to head him off,' a senior White House official said, claiming Manchin 'refused to take a call from White House staff' before the interview.

You Know, Joe Man_Chin might be considering this as his “break-out” moment. He is on of the few democrats that the old time /dems could support now that it is confirmed in practice that /biden has dementia.
I don’t believe a word from the WH, nor would I give them any benefit of the doubt. Blindsided? Then why is it reported that they were trying to contact him shortly before he went on television? They knew what he was going to say.

Just not the kind that collects awards and acclamation.

Looks like BBB bill is dead. Or else, Manchin wouldn't announce this on Fox News.
If Biden and the Democrats are smart, time to cut their losses. Focus on stand alone bills that can pass. Make child tax credit permanent. Manchin and Sinema would probably vote yes on that if there's nothing else added to that bill.
We're going to see those words repeated again and again in the weeks ahead.
