Abstract
Gift giving is the process by which an HIV-positive person purposely infects an HIV-negative person with HIV, usually with that person’s knowledge and consent. Little has been written about this HIV transmission practice. In this paper, two specific types of gift giving – generationing and stealthing – are explained and introduced to the scientific literature. Generationing is a type of gift giving in which one gift giver successfully infects a previously-uninfected man with HIV, and then the two men collaborate in an effort to seroconvert another man, and so forth. Stealthing is another type of gift giving in which an HIV-positive man actively tries to infect an HIV-negative man with HIV, without the latter’s knowledge or consent. The present study reports on the prevalence of gift giving (4.6%) in a population of men who use the Internet specifically to identify partners for unprotected sex. The research is based on a national random sample of 332 men who have sex with men, identified from 16 websites. Data were collected via telephone interviews conducted between January 2008 and May 2009. The paper concludes with a discussion of the implications of these findings for HIV prevention and intervention efforts. Most notably, to the extent that generationing, stealthing, and gift giving occur among MSM, they represent a very high risk of HIV transmission. More work needs to be done to understand these behaviors, the factors that underlie them, and to determine how prevalent they are in the bare-backing population of MSM.

I’m guessing part of the thought is that, the more people have HIV, the more voters will be HIV+, then the more government funding will be applied to treating HIV.
Sounds like how vampires were reported to work. Maybe these scum need a stake through their heart (if they have one) to cure them.

You know how the media is no longer what was once know as “journalism” when you know this paper could easily be discussed very calmly and uncritically by many media venues, but if the “gifting” being discussed concerned Covid19 instead of HIV, the whole media would be up in arms with 24/7 condemnation toward the “gift givers”.

I remember some years back reading that there were gay men who wanted to be infected, because the multitude of drugs prescribed to treat AIDS patients was commonly referred to as a “drug cocktail.” I suppose that phrase conjured up for them a mental image of a party with tasty, colorful, fruity alcoholic drinks, and that’s why it appealed to them. Talk about getting one’s priorities mixed up.
Now if this article is true they’re treating HIV infection as an initiation into a special club of perverts. How sick is this? And yet they and the politicians who pander to them want us all to accept their objectively self-destructive behavior as normal and healthy, rearrange our lives to accomodate them, and raise our children to accept all this as though that’s the way it’s always been? Nope. Not on your life.

In the Australian Capital Territory and California laws passed this year to criminalize one’s behavior in the bedroom.
Namely not using a condom during sexual activity.
The irony of it all after the governments let loose and legalized all the sexual activity on the basis of the notion that government should ‘not be in the bedroom’.
Well, the governments have turned around and gotten right back into the bedroom regulating sexual behavior in the bedroom.
Actually it’s quite true. Some news cast even had a couple of this idiots interview why they do it. Needless saying these people are not just crazy but dangerous to others...they didn’t see it that way.

There are lots of interesting comments here. What I haven’t seen so far (I have not read them all) is that having the disease in some communities means that the infected person can go onto permanent disability and will be generously supported by the taxpayers and no longer need to work or pay for their medical treatment. It’s a “you get what you reward” phenomenon. When you pay people to be ill or unable, that’s way easier to achieve than valuable accomplishments. It attracts a lot of people. Back to the old metaphor of the difference between a safety net and a hammock.
