The Biden administration has walked away from legal negotiations in which it was considering paying $450,000 to each adult and child separated at the southern border during the Trump administration.
The U.S. government “has ended negotiations over a settlement of the cases seeking monetary compensation,” according to the ACLU. Lead attorney Lee Gelernt told CBS News that the Biden administration’s decision not to pay affected families was the result of having “allowed politics to get in the way of helping the little children deliberately abused by our government.”
Approximately 5,400 children were separated at the border and sent to HHS facilities, while their parents were referred for prosecution for illegally crossing the U.S.-Mexico border.

On the one hand, it’s obviously good that this utterly insane, perverse-incentive scheme has been ditched. On the other hand, it would have been the Dems’ most massive “own goal” in recent history. The payouts to lawbreakers, topping $1 million for a family of three, would have been so over-the-top offensive to Americans of all races and political leanings who are working hard to support their families that it would have been utterly devastating to Dem congressional candidates in 2022.
Now Plugs can say he never considered this payment...when running again in 2024...

Dems are punting this past the midterms. Control of the House in 2022 will be decided in suburban areas and paying off wetbacks is a net loser for them there.
It’s not like the illegals need more incentives to cross the border. Brandon just wants to find a way to wreck the economy at the same time now that build back better appears to be dead.
