York’s New Year’s Eve White Rose Drop and the city’s New Year’s Eve Children’s Balloon Drop have been canceled, York Mayor Michael Helfrich announced on Friday.
City officials said they are canceling large city-sponsored public events due to the recent rapid increase in COVID-19 caseloads, and York and Memorial hospitals being near or above 100% capacity.
“While we know that these events are community favorites, these events have the potential of bringing very large crowds together to celebrate, exacerbating this fourth surge of COVID-19,” city officials said in a news release. “High inpatient volumes create delays in the start of care and cause length of stays in hospitals to grow. As a result, this creates a clog in the system, and impacts every aspect of our hospitals. Backups are often felt in the emergency departments. These events are being canceled so that the City of York does its best to reduce these impacts on our residents and healthcare systems.”
In addition, beginning Thursday, the city is making other changes. Other than the treasurer’s Office customer windows, City Hall business will be conducted by previously scheduled appointment only and facemasks are required.
During this time, residents can still contact the city with general concerns and may email mayorsoffice@yorkcity.org or call 717-849-2221. Phone call response will be delayed during this period and email is preferred.

Helfrich was convicted of selling hallucinogenic mushrooms in his younger, wilder days.
The former Mayor, Kim Bracey, attempted to bar him from being seated on City Council because of that moral turpitude.
He prevailed and later defeated Bracey (D) by running a write-in campaign as a “R”.
This time around he ran as a Donk.
This is a shame for kids.
And the Rose drop was OUTDOORS!
Sounds like another one who got his office via Uniparty vote fraud shenanigans.
