White House to unveil plan to put new truck drivers behind the wheel (Illegals?)

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg will join Labor Secretary Martin J. Walsh and National Economic Council Director Brian Deese in unveiling details behind the Biden-Harris Trucking Action Plan during a White House roundtable with trucking-industry leaders.

The trucker shortage, which the industry has warned of since at least the 1980s, has reached critical mass, as COVID-19 shutdowns have triggered widespread layoffs while temporarily closing the state DMVs and driver-training schools that serve as the industry’s pipeline.

A senior administration official said the problems that the plan aims to address are longstanding and not merely a result of industry shake-up from the pandemic.

“But in this worker-centered recovery, these new investments and infrastructure, and this new focus by this administration, gives us the opportunity to work together across industry, government and labor to take these challenges on,” the official said.

The plan aims to put more drivers behind the wheel by stepping up initiatives to recruit more military veterans into the industry, and by launching an apprenticeship accelerator aimed at helping employers start or grow their apprenticeship programs.

...trucks are moving 2 abreast, in long lines going east and west.

One going 64.993 MPH and the left lane dude trying to pass at 65.002.

Miles of cars wanting to go 70 frustrated as hell behind them!

Would you rather have them crashing to your vehicle with a 4,000 pound load or an 80,000 pound load? I’ll take the 4000 if I have to choose. Any cop with traffic experience will tell you there are a huge number of medicated people, both legal and illegal meds, on the road at any given time. It is a problem of epic proportions and if I had to bet I would say that the recent uptick in vehicle accidents is all the people that discovered new legal medications (and illegal ones) during the lockdown.

Lol. We were cursing them for that.
L.A. is the only real problem. Re customs brokers all else doing o.k.

But the story give cover to unnecessary price hikes. Called inflation.

“Can you say third world country in the rear view mirror?”

I think the intent is to create a huge migration to Florida by American citizens but it won’t really be a migration to Florida, just people looking for the shortest route to Cuba! The Mexican border will be overrun in the North to South direction this time. The worst will come when all those who came here illegally looking for paradise create a mad rush trying to go home to escape the hell hole that is being created here.

The trucker shortage, which the industry has warned of since at least the 1980s, has reached critical mass...

Why does the f*ing gvt always have to wait until a situation reaches critical mass before they get off their lazy, overpaid butts and address the problem?

Pete Buttplug and Buck Fiden. A winning combo :)

But wouldn't the alternate be micro-managing?
