A teenager in a Chicago suburb who pleaded guilty to fatally stabbing a 15-year-old was sentenced to three years of probation and to complete community service hours.
"When the defendant stabbed my son, he stabbed the heart of my family," the victim’s mother, Marcela Fierros, said in a statement that was read in court Monday.
The unidentified defendant pleaded guilty to second-degree murder after 15-year-old Elias Valdez was fatally stabbed in August of 2020 in Glenview, which is about about 20 miles from Chicago. The defendant was charged as a juvenile in the case.
n addition to probation and completing 100 community service hours, a Cook County judge ordered the 17-year-old high school senior and his parents to participate in counseling.
The stabbing unfolded when Valdez tried to buy marijuana from the defendant but tried to take the drugs without paying for them, according to police. The defendant chased Valdez, ending with the two fighting and the defendant stabbing him with a utility tool. He died later that day in the hospital.
"I’m mad," Valdez’s sister, Elizabeth Valdez, told the Chicago Tribune after his death. "It’s not fair how he passed away. It’s not fair to know that he’s gone and I’m not receiving answers."

Druggie tries to rob a dealer and gets killed in the process. I guess that’s the answer.
Just a harmless fraternity prank. Nothing to see here, folks. Move along....
Just vote Democrat.
“Unidentified defendant” tells you everything without saying a word. These animals have been given free reign to murder anyone they want at any time. This is an outrage! Ammo up people! It’s coming…
What counts as community service in Illinois?
Volunteering at a food bank.
Assisting a church.
Giving meals at a soup kitchen.
Working at a public library.
Volunteering at a non-profit thrift store.
Cleaning up a public park.
Cleaning roads and highways.
Assisting disaster relief programs like the Red Cross.
Rough road to travel but killing someone with a knife over a drug deal merits this kick in the gut./S
Boy - imagine if he took selfies in the capital building. He’d be in jail for 10 years.
Manslaughter and drug dealing are a-ok!
Here in Commiefornia, my brother-in-law got murdered during a robbery in Stockton. The first perp copped a plea and got 12 years. The second took it to trial and got 25 years. Very weak justice, in my opinion. And yes, they belonged to a favored group in the USA.
The unidentified defendant = ILLEGAL???
but they had no problem smearing KR who was INNOCENT!
Sends a lesson. Yikes!!
counseling...yeah...that’ll do it.
“Teens”, below the age of 16, in the nearby urban center, are traveling in vans to suburban neighborhoods and then robbing homes and vehicles parked in driveways. Occasionally they steal cars from driveways and streets. They beat up the homeless. There have been several instances of dozens breaking into new car dealerships, stealing the keys from the key-box inside, and then stealing many cars from the lot.
When caught, they get at worst a slap on the wrist - community service and a scolding by the judge. Turned loose on the street they are back to the gang activity within days.
The effects of no parenting and a ghetto culture are magnified when progressive politicians, district attorneys and judges essentially condone the anti social behavior. Add to the facilitators the local press that reports little of what is going on in the community and the citizens who consistently vote for candidates based on party without ever spending time to research what these elected officials are actually doing.
When good people fail to take action, barbarians run free. Eventually we will have total anarchy.
One of my former co workers, was murdered in a road rage incident, in Sacramento, about 10 days ago, by a career criminal. Sucks.
Wasn’t Billy the Kid only 16-years old when they put out a “Wanted Dead or Alive” reward out for him? Had they caught him alive, they would have justifiable hung him, no matter his “tender age.”
100 hours of community service and counseling for drug dealing and murder — wow. The judge might as well have put up a billboard proclaiming “Hispanic Kids’ Lives = Nada”.
This is the kind of case that spurs vigilanteism.
When good people fail to take action, barbarians run free

But when “good people” DO take action, the authorities charged with keeping public order - and failing to do so - will arrest, incarcerate and/or bankrupt those “good people.”

Wow what a punishment. I’m sure he will repent of all his evil deeds and become a model citizen after that grueling punishment.
