1230 AM all digital so most can’t get it
I guess they want listeners.
In Boston jazz station WSRO AM 650 is all digital. While there is a small FM translator in Framingham area, those without a digital radio only hear “hash” and noise on the AM...plus signal gets worse at night.
Digital or “HD Radio” is a hybrid—analog signals everyone can get, plus HD FM
signals those with an HD radio can get.
HD FMs can have “subchannels” only available on HD radios.
HD AM signal digital only. Only for those
with digital radios _that can get AM digital_.
Note that some AM stations are heard
on FM HD. In Boston, talk stations WRK0, WBZ AM, and WXKS AM are also on “HD2”
signals.
All you New Yorkers will now be able to enjoy Chris Plante in the mornings. A must-listen-to guy, funny and excellent media analyst.
Chris has a fantastic show.
Radio is still a thing?
“Radio is still a thing?”
No. Radio and newspapers are slowly declining. I remember listening 3 hours daily to Michael Medved, Michael Savage, George Putnam, John and Ken (KFI), Jim Rome, Hugh Hewitt, and Tammy Bruce. Then something happened in 2016 that improved everything: Trump’s election. Now it is Free Republic online and Steve Turley on YouTube. Radio has become useless like newspapers. Amazing, really.
Red Eye Radio is a must, and every market deserves it as an alternative to Coast2Coast, when the fill in host is annoying/just plain bad or when the subject matter is ridiculous. The only problem with Red Eye is that it is not on Fridays. It is a Sunday-Thursday show, maybe for a trucker's schedule? And i don't know why they call their Thursday show "the bonus show" when literally every other talk radio host is on 5 days a week.
Anyhoo, this does not seem to address the real issue in talk radio: The format, (And radio, itself) is in real danger. As much as the country is. And I don't see a way that it finds a way out of the problems it finds itself in, quite frankly.
Radio is bound to still be around, at least until cars really do drive themselves. Nobody wants to be typing in URLs when they are supposed to be driving.
Going over to digital and expecting listeners to buy new equipment is likely to hurt AM radio though. People will conclude that it's not worth it when you can get what you want through other means.
Agree! WMAL is on my speaker, no matter where in the country I may be. Chris Plante is in “never miss” status.
Red Eye Radio is by far the best overnight show, since Art Bell left us.
Agree.
Chris Plante and the Red Eye guys are the best.
