Los Angeles cell phone stores ransacked by smash-and-grab thieves, LAPD to increase patrols and add detectives

The Los Angeles Police Department will deploy extra patrols and detectives following a series of smash-and-grab robberies at three cell phone stores Monday night in what has become an ongoing trend where organized gangs of thieves loot retail shops for thousands of dollars worth of merchandise in a matter of seconds.

The thefts all occurred in the city's San Fernando Valley area, the LAPD told Fox News. All involved at least three suspects but no arrests have been made.

Investigators are looking into whether to incidents are related. The LAPD said a similar incident also occurred in Duarte, a suburb located nearly 22 miles east of downtown Los Angeles.

A police spokeswoman did not reveal which cell phone stores were targeted, but a search revealed T-Mobile locations in the areas where the robberies occurred. Fox News has reached out to the telecommunications giant.

Los Angeles has seen a sharp rise in organized groups of thieves looting stores, sometimes in violent fashion in front of stunned shoppers. Last week, the LAPD announced the arrest of two adults and four minors allegedly linked to four flash mob incidents.

Shopping outlets like the Beverly Center and The Grove have been targeted as well as a swap meet where cash and jewelry were taken. In one incident, a suspect knocked a pregnant employee to the ground. A security guard was attacked with bear spray in another.

No retailer is particularly safe as pharmacies, convenience stores and cannabis shops have also been ransacked in recent weeks. Some thefts are being coordinated online through social media and messaging apps, authorities said.

The LAPD has also formed a task force to address the rise in "follow-home" robberies where thieves follow victims home or to a secluded area to rob them.

Being old enough to remember shows like Dragnet and Adam-12 (in their original showing) where LAPD was portrayed as a premier LE organization, this just makes me sad how easily it slips away when civic leadership loses sight of their actual function.

Seems a bit late...why bother, that stuff is gone!

They will add extra patrols. Of course, they will not arrest the criminals, but they will patrol more.

Forget about the stores, THIS is why people should be armed, and these muggers should be shot by the victims.

The problem is, even if looters get arrested in L.A. or Chicago or NYC, the DA is just going to charge them with a misdemeanor (if they get charged at all) and they’re not going to spend any time in jail. How is that going to deter anyone from committing a crime?

How silly.
There won’t be a shootout of police firing at the criminals.

What will the plain clothes detectives do, radio for backup:
“Okay, okay but remember don’t confront or try to arrest any, especially if they’re persons of color. We want no arrests. And this time try not to faint from fear. Buck up, for gosh sakes.”

And “patrols”: “Yes, we see the thugs carrying heavy plastic bags filled with stolen merchandise. We see them getting away. We seem them driving faster than the posted speed limit. No, sir, we will not chase them. No arrests. We’ll just head straight for the Dunkin’ down the street.”

A few dead smash-n-grabbers would put an end to it.

And how will someone break it to AOC and Tlaib, not to mention the BLM leaders and Congressional Black Caucus?

When those first AOC tears gush forth on national TV they will say "Defund the ruthless police." AOC: "The early reparations takers there didn't even have bread for their families. They had no choice in racist America but to take what white supremacy has denied them."

Yeah, LA and SF are becoming dystopian nightmares, but at least no more mean tweets from the bad orange man.

Meanwhile, Nanc y Pelosi is preparing for her retirement by purchasing a $28 million home in Florida. She helped turn SF into a lawless, drug-fueled, homeless camp and has no intention of retiring there.

Can’t they brick a phone remotely? Wouldn’t the phone store have a record of the phones not yet sold?
