SEATTLE - The Salvation Army is facing a shortage of toys and donations ahead of the holiday season, and urge communities to find a way to help.
The nonprofit reports it gets 75% of total annual donations during November and December, and they are once again in need of support. That help can come in the form of an online donation at the virtual Northwest Red Kettle.
"There are many reasons why both financial and toy donations are down this year, not the least of which is likely pandemic fatigue and concerns about employment and the future," said Colonel Cindy Foley of the NW Salvation Army Division. "We are actually trying to provide food, shelter, toys and clothing to double the number of families we served last Christmas, and in the midst of the growing need we are seeing fewer people donating at our virtual and physical kettles."
Not only is the nonprofit organization short on donations, they also are in desperate need of bell ringers to staff the red kettles seen at businesses around the country.
"The situation is dire, and we are asking our generous supporters in the region to donate to the virtual Northwest Red Kettle as well as make donations at every physical kettle in whatever way you can," said Foley.
When I was in the USN back in the Seventies, they used to pressure all of us to give “officially” to the United Way.
Everyone.
It pissed me off so much I haven’t given them a cent since then. And that was over forty five years ago.
+++++++++++++++++++++
I have a very similar experience. Slightly different. There was an option to give a lump sum or a fixed contribution taken out of the regular pay period. I was willing to give the lump sum but that option went away and we were forced to give a “regular” deduction. That made it easy for me as my regular deduction amount was made ZERO.
Colonel Cindy Foley is a regular Jen Psaki...ignoring the REAL reason they are lacking donations and blaming THE PANDEMIC!!!!! It’s a mystery to me how ANYONE at the Salvation Army thought this “apologize for being white” thing was gonna work out well for them.
Way back in 1969, when I was a young lieutenant in Germany, I declined to participate in a United Way fund drive. In two weeks I got orders for Vietnam.
Yep:
Why do organizations always give in to woke demands? If someone contacts them and asks "why no commitment to LGBTQ and diversity?", they could just ignore the question, or respond with "charity knows no color or lifestyle". Instead, they chose to go full woke to appeal to a miniscule amount of people and twitter-bots while ignoring and insulting their true base of support.
You are either negligent of much too gentlemanly to say where they can shove the bell.
When asked on the street why not giving, be sure and say why. “Get woke, go broke” should suffice.
United Way lost my support when they cut that of the Boy Scouts.
Then, the BS got woke and dissolved under an avalanche of gay attacks. Good riddance to them, too.
“The SA made it clear that my white money wasn’t wanted.
We have obliged them.”
Me, too. I always donated when they sent a mailing. No more. Their letters go in the trash. I also put money in the red kettles. No more. As a matter of fact, I haven’t seen one all season.
I gave them my whiteness apology. What more can I do?
I live about a mile north of Seattle and didn’t see my first SA bell-ringer until about four or five days ago. Meanwhile, I contributed to my local fire department’s annual toy drive, and to Toys for Tots.
They are a huge success in our little town getting people off the streets and off drugs, they insist they stay clean and teach them self sufficiency through Bible teachings.
Lol, they should have spoken to current and former waiters and waitresses about the generosity of the typical 13 %er.
Classic playground bully: give me your toys and lunch money, and say you're sorry.
I stopped giving to the SA when Jerry Jones turned it into another marketing spectacle. Anything involving him is a huge turnoff for me, such as Papa John’s Pizza.
Go woke, go broke.
“The SA made it clear that my white money wasn’t wanted.
We have obliged them.”
Exactly. Let them go get all of them Black people’s money.
They should have thought of this before they started calling me a racist.
Now, that is another thing I hate, and it ties it in to things today in the form of software.
More and more software is getting into the subscription mode, which I despise.
I want to own the software, not rent it.
When giving money to charity, like you, I want to give it on MY terms, not theirs.
Agreed, but my decision was a long time coming. I watched silently and held my tongue for several years as the leftists began to overrun the place. For me, they were no longer a Christian organization about “doing the most good”, but a left-wing cult focused on everything woke and dismissive of everything Christian.
The only thing that surprised me about their new woke manual instructing white people to apologize is that it took them so long to do it
“The only way for them to recover is to fire their entire board and put up commercials and send letters with a sincere apology and admission that they were wrong.”
And return to preaching the TRUE Gospel of Jesus Christ.
“return to preaching the TRUE Gospel of Jesus Christ.”
That’s for sure. In the ‘60s I used to go to their summer camp in upstate NY. Preaching and policies were very fundamental — strictly “by the ‘Book’”.
