As critical race theory and school board meetings grab headlines, it’s easy to forget that we are all the product of the childhood education we received.
At 26, I rarely think about elementary school lessons. However, I was recently reminded of my favorite book from my fourth-grade class, “Island of the Blue Dolphins” by Scott O’Dell. I saw a reference to Aleuts, or the Russian term for people native to the Aleutian archipelago, and the term instantly transported me back to the book I adored.

“Island of the Blue Dolphins” is an influential part of California’s literary history. However, it should not be promoted to young readers, particularly without context. Thus, it should be removed from elementary classrooms and from California Department of Education’s Recommended Literature List.

Book I enjoyed greatly in elementary school was a collection of poems and songs and jokes. It was taken away from me and my friends for loudly reading lyrics (Which I will swear to this day were “Dixie”) that contained the “N woid” and then laughing about it. Fwiw, I have never been able to find lyrics for Dixie that contained the offending word...but I am still sure.
If offends these woke scum let’s bring the book back!

The parents approve of them doing it. So what can you say? The parents are who bring them and either remain with them or return for them.
In a similar manner, many good Germans in the early 1930s were horrified to learn that their kindly teachers were Jewish, and therefore not presenting history or culture in a manner that was accurate, so they should be replaced by Aryans.
I read once that when Ukraine was ruled by Mongols/Tartars who were Muslims, the Ukrainians took to raising a lot of pigs because the Muslims wouldn’t take them away.
