I’m horrified after revisiting my favorite book from elementary school

As critical race theory and school board meetings grab headlines, it’s easy to forget that we are all the product of the childhood education we received.

At 26, I rarely think about elementary school lessons. However, I was recently reminded of my favorite book from my fourth-grade class, “Island of the Blue Dolphins” by Scott O’Dell. I saw a reference to Aleuts, or the Russian term for people native to the Aleutian archipelago, and the term instantly transported me back to the book I adored.

he highlighted a statistical anomaly: a massacre committed on Native Californians by other Native people during a century marked by a genocide from American colonizers in the region.

which did happen but as the tribes had no written language it was not well documented

“Island of the Blue Dolphins” is an influential part of California’s literary history. However, it should not be promoted to young readers, particularly without context. Thus, it should be removed from elementary classrooms and from California Department of Education’s Recommended Literature List.

So recommends another cancel culture book burner

She reduces all literature to whether it supports the Critical Race Theory ideology, or not.

Anything which does not support her extremely narrow ideology must be destroyed.

She is the typical "party member" which Orwell wrote about in the novel 1984.

I actually feel bad for modern leftists. They desperately want to burn books they don’t like. But they know that book-burnings will contribute to global warming. Quite the conundrum.

The author of the article was dissatisfied that it was native on native and found a way to blame white people after all. Her “historical accuracy” is nothing but speculation.

The upside of the Communist takeover of the US will be the pleasure of watching woke people starve to death.

Unfortunately, we get to starve to death with them.

Henceforth all books should be printed on dry ice and kept under refrigeration.

Fighting between indigenous peoples in pre-Columbian America was frequent, so massacres were probably not uncommon.

I think we should tie her to a chair and read all of the Dr. Seuss books to her. I’d love a good tweedle beetle bottle battle.

Historical inaccuracy aside, O’Dell, who was white...

Now you know why the story is so distorted and full of lies and misrepresentations.

Book I enjoyed greatly in elementary school was a collection of poems and songs and jokes. It was taken away from me and my friends for loudly reading lyrics (Which I will swear to this day were “Dixie”) that contained the “N woid” and then laughing about it. Fwiw, I have never been able to find lyrics for Dixie that contained the offending word...but I am still sure.

Unfortunately, we get to starve to death with them.

My Ukrainian relatives survived the Holodomir in central Ukraine by…

1. Living in the country shack (not in city)
2. Having a large garden and chickens, Turkeys, ducks
3. Living by a river

The parents approve of them doing it. So what can you say? The parents are who bring them and either remain with them or return for them.

In a similar manner, many good Germans in the early 1930s were horrified to learn that their kindly teachers were Jewish, and therefore not presenting history or culture in a manner that was accurate, so they should be replaced by Aryans.

I read once that when Ukraine was ruled by Mongols/Tartars who were Muslims, the Ukrainians took to raising a lot of pigs because the Muslims wouldn’t take them away.
