I read a piece by a genuine journalist. He’d stayed in the camps of several of the various sides in the Syrian civil war. He said, “approximately,” What the west doesn’t understand is there are no good guys. It’s bad guys versus even worse guys. There’s the ones who will simply kill people who aren’t on their side. Then there are guys who will burn their captives alive, or slowly lower them in a cage into water. There’s no one here any rational westerner would have as a neighbor.
I was thinking the other day about what made Christianity the most successful belief system. It was because Christianity codified rules for rational living. If you were Christian in a Christian civilization, it didn’t matter whether you were weak, female, poor, everyone had the optimal chance at success over the same person in any other non-Christian culture. Now, we have, on purpose, abandoned what made Christianity the richest, most upwardly mobile society belief system in history. We are idiots. (Incidentally, I don’t consider myself even mildly religious. But I sure do appreciate we live in a society what derives from that religion.)
